225/55 r17 winters on 17x8

I have 17x8 all around for my winter setup.
Friend is selling a set of Blizzak WS 225/55 r17, wondering if it would fit without rub.
Wheels are motegi mr11878052745 (17x8 5-120 ET-45).
I'm replacing 215/45r17.

Sorry if this is covered, I didn't have much luck searching the forums/internets for this setup.

225/45R17 is the proper sizing (stock on 128i). 225/55/R17 fills the wheel well by almost 1 inch more. My guess is it'll be too tall.

Should not be a problem. Sidewall is 10mm taller but that is only roughly 1/2 inch. Considering that some people run 19" rims and you are at 17" then no problem. Call Tire Rack if you want to verify--they are usually good for info such as this.

It is not the rim diameter you need to compare, but the overall wheel diameter that is the issue. 225/55/17 is 7.1% larger than 225/45/17 (~26.7" vs. ~25"), so the speedometer would be way off (~6.6%). Changing rim size is not an issue, if you keep the overall wheel diameter close to the original (usual rule of thumb is ~3% or less).

+1

225/55R17 is too tall to fit.

Great to have such a forum where the knowledge base is shared. Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead on the original question!
