So my question is, anyone here interested in getting a Drexler GB? Drexler will build the whole diff for you in Germany, even change out the final ratio if you want (if you change it to the auto gear box final ratio your car is going to accelerate a lot faster). You get to keep your original diff to put it back later when you sell the car if you wish. I think you can also send the core back to Drexler for a refund if you want. Drexler diff is definitely better than Quaiffe for track and racing application. For example, if one wheel is in the air, Quaiffe doesn't work. Price is $6500 plus shipping. Shipping will be about $800. Anyone? I know it is a bit steep in price, which is why I am interested to see if there are others interested so that I can bring the cost down. If this doesn't work out, then Quiaffe it is for me too. |

Haha ok fair enough. But if you want the best you have to pay right? How much was it for Quiaffe to send the whole diff here with a different final ratio? Then I can compare like for like.

$6000 for quaife and $7300 for drexler so actually there is not much in it though i do not think i would pay $1300 just so i can drive on three wheels better. oh, and our mutual friend may have some much cheaper locally-engineered solutions down the track too. sorry, was i not supposed to say that out loud?

Guys, if your local source doesn't work, another option to check would be Diffsonline.com I priced one out for my e90, which included custom ramps and lockout choices, and it was ~$3900 (AU$4500), for a single unit. I bet multi-units would get your price down from there.

Hmm, maybe we should commision Harrop to custome build one for 1 series? But what is the point. I mean, it's not hard to get the LSD from the likes of Quaiffe. It's machining the welded crown wheel that is going to be lots of work...

Just a thought. There are savings in numbers.
The 135 I think is going to be more of a track weapon in the future, it will take over from the 335 and be more popular there. Its a very good alternative to the Evo's and STI's. Any way just my thoughts. So where I'm getting to is maybe there could be future potential for alot more lsd's in the Australian Asia market to be had. They also might need a 'test mule' Ha Ha. Lol. See where I'm coming from. |

Damn shame the 135 didn't come with the LSD standard, also a DSC gearbox would have been nice. However back to the LSD I consider this essential with any power upgrade. Andrew is doing ours in the next couple of months and a quaife or equivalent is included in the build. He would probably be the best one to seek an update here, I know he is exploring a local alternative.

Yeah I know what Andrew is up to. I started this conversation with him from day 1. We are watching our friend in NSW closely on this one. LSD was always high on my list.

Don't know if it'll help you guys for this topic or not, but quite a few people have used quaife LSD's on their 2.0ltr turbo FWD Astras and other types on the Opel forums both here and more so O/S in Europe and the results have been varied...
Some swear by the results, whilst others say, it didn't help or do enough of an improvement to justify the cost...especially if your shipping it O/S. Most have commented on the Quaife brand being of excellent quality with their hardware  |

Wraith, with all due respect to your Astra friends, anyone with a FWD open diff car putting out 145kw and can't feel the difference of a LSD is not a real driver. Of course LSD makes no difference when all you do is cruise around lol.

hi there harold. though mine is unique in some rather important ways, lots of guys have an LSD on their 1er here in australia now. i can only speak for myself though when i say that it is easily the best modification i have on my car thus far. it absolutely and verifiably transformed my car - it tracks round corners better, gets off the line better, the rear feels alive and so controllable. and it does all this without making even a whisper of noise.

i agree 100%, i've driven a much more expensive car with a diff (i shall not name it here) and thought mine felt as good if not better. still i can see why people would think twice since it is an expensive modification, and especially so in australia. but hey, if you want to help make it a lot cheaper here you might find a lot more more takers.

If the price was a bit less I'd jump on board. At present dollars I prefer to spend the $$ on my hobby car, as it will get me a lot further bang for bucks.

Looks like you have an automatic, all you need is just the Quaife unit only, not the complete Quaife Final Drive Unit.
