So is a 10W 50 a good rating for washer fluid or should I go 5W 50?

Decision, decisions.

Add a few drops of acetone, you'll get at least a 25% cleaner windscreen.

Nah.... I think you are OK with 10W50 for now. But for the blinker fluid, I would try 10W40. Otherwise your blinkers may be running a bit too fast. My 2 cents.

I dont know whats so hard about getting to the dealer, and getting it top off. after reading this sad post of laziness, I decided to go the dealer and have mine check. Boy! thnks to you, my car took the whole gallon bottle. Those porter boys from Fairfax BMW are great! soon as I arrived I got it serviced, feels like a gas station full-service!
It doesnt matter if you have a 325i or a 645Ci, it just important to be polite and nice I think.
thks for your post!

I pull into the garage, open the hood and upcap the fill cap, grab a bottle of wiper fliud and pour. While I have the hood open, I also inspect any signs of abnormality. If just after the snow storm check for salt residue under the hood, rinse with luke warm water if needed. The whole process will not take more than a few minutes.

Let see how long does it take if I take it to the dealer....

Dealer's opposite direction from work by about 25 miles, here in Seattle 25miles = 1:30 driving time during rush hour and only open till 5:30. I'm in charge of picking up my son from daycare so that'd mean leaving work at roughly 2:30 or 3 ... just to get some washer fluid that I could go to the store 2 miles from my house and get myself.

I basically couldn't use my washers for a week. Once it broke 32 degrees I flushed it all out with "De-Icer".

It's not all the same. You still have to read the bottle -- my der!
You mean you didn't pour the boiling water on it to get it to thaw?

makes sense! I guess RainX at Advance Auto may work very well for you. They currently have a special, $2/bottle w/ $2 rebate!
enjoy!

this is definitely not true. here most of the washer fliuds i've seen have a label on them saying it will freeze below 32F. it's ok for people here since most of us never go to areas that cold.
