Whoops S6!T and repair

I have hit a kerb!
The damage is heart breaking. I was made aware of people doing mobile alloy repair in Sydney by lovely people here in 1addicts.... so after crawling the web I have found the following website called www.thesmartguys.com.au. Their number is 1300 WHOOPS haha... I was going to repair it at Morrabin but I also have a dent from I dunno when . So it is more convient for me. Wheel cost $150 to repair and dent is $100.

I was not intending to replace the wheel but I called BMW to get a quote.... $1025 each back wheel!

This is how they fixed my wheels. Firstly they smooth it out with an orbital tool. Then put some fillers in. Then cover all the parts (brake disc, caliper, body, logo on the wheel etc). Then 2 coats of paint (undercoat and cover).

Taka, are you 100% happy with the repair and colour match of the wheel, seeing they sprayed half the rim...

Looks great in the pics.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of work in Sydney, and someone they've used and would recommend.

My wife's Benz has mysteriously developed a nasty rash on a wheel that no one can explain.

He did not even spray half the wheel. He only blended out the colour in that portion exposed to air (as in the above picture). Although I did not see him working on it...

I parked the car outside for lunch and I could not see or tell where it was now (oh it is next to the valve ...) ...

.... Zuzu you have now made me look harder ^^". All your fault.

From the photo the repair looks impecable...

Was more concerned with the painting of the wheel than the repair.

Zuzu,

I think it is pretty good. I am still struggling to pick on the finish. May be the paint is slightly rough on touch. But you can see (click to enlarge)... it is not bad considering it is painted over.

With the run craps and other low profile tyres there is a lot of pressure put on the rim when installing new tyres. How do you think the repair will hold up?

I have a few small spots I would not mind getting touched up.. but they are not bad enough to worry about if they are likely to need doing again.

WOPALX. If the tyre shop need to heavily lean the edge of your rim to install the tyre... it is prob not good to go there? The metal rod they use is mainly to guide the new tyres in. Some, I admit, some are pretty shit. I have seen a lot of people installing semi slicks in my alloy wheels and none that I trust had to use much force on the rim. If you are still worry, go to a tyre shop that sells semis and have a look.

Taka, you should have rang me. Don't know if you realise, but our friend Matty Coleman is the wheel repair king in Melbourne these days! He is in Richmond behind fitness first.

BUGGA!!!! - I feel your pain.

As you know (unfortunatley), they'll make it as good as new. But it is a giant PIA, and a waste of time and $'s.

Had my missus Benz wheel fixed yesterday - 1.5 hours & $100 later - immaculate.

This is not shaping up as a good week for "addicts" - Your wheel and my door trim.

Not to drag humour out of a bad situation, but perhaps you should have optioned PDC on the sides of your car. Sorry, that's the first thing that entered my warped head when I read your latest post.

Haha very funny. I don't think it would help. I somehow do not know where the left back wheel is.

I am off to see Matt on Thursday, and going to check out his shop. Will report back the 2 people repairing the same wheel. He said he will paint the whole wheel for similar price.

Have you set up the passenger mirror to dip when you put it in reverse Taka?

With that feature enabled I would have thought it nearly impossible to scrape the wheel doing a reverse park.

FFFFCCCKKKK!!
I just kerbed one of mine coming out of the carpark at work this afternoon, then got home to find one of the new BlackLine rear lights I bought from Germany (because it was $200 cheaper than the dealer) was damaged in transit, eliminating any cost savings since I'll either have to send it back to Germany or source another one locally
