Sam, I guess it isn't so bad if you're talking 20d and only spending $76k, but when you're spending $90k+ I can't see the point...
You can get an Evoque with similar specs to that for similar money, and let's face it, it looks heaps better :-) |

I would have seriously considered the Evoque if it was more available when I ordered the X3. I don't think performance is a huge issue for me for that sort of car, and the superior 4WD would be more useful. My wife would have never agreed to move away from BMWs though as we have established good relationship with the dealership and Land Rover's service and support up on the Sunny Coast is a bit lacking. I hate chasing up dealers when I am buying the car.
Having said that, the X3 is a very very good car to drive. Never touched a evoque so can't compare.

Each to their own when selecting cars remember. . Without considering my wife's thoughts I would have bought the 520d Touring for her.

X5 all the way - much better car and if you really need a toorak tractor , then you need the extra room the X5 offers. My LCI 3.0d has just racked up 52000km with No issues and is a fuel miser at 7.5l/100 with the Air cond on all the time.
Pulls a 6m boat with ease The X3 is a great car but should have been priced closer to 70k to be competitve with a X5. My X5 Innovations pack was $110k on road (nsw) with most extras apart from 20" wheels. I bought it within 3 weeks of the LCI launch, therefore wiggle room was Non existient Same car in a Non LCI format was 10-12k cheaper , but you didint get the 8 speed gearbox, which IMHO is essential. Looks like some good deals may now be on offer from BMW http://www.caradvice.com.au/171054/b...enz-ml-threat/ happy shopping JD |

the current E70 X5 is ageing quite a bit though, personally I would wait for the F40 which should be due next year.
X3 is overpriced I reckon, it is still relatively small for the price you paid. you should check out xoutpost forum, heaps of valuable info there. |

Haven't driven an X3 but have driven my sister's Evoque a bit. Very nice on the road (like most of them it hasn't been off road) and I didn't find it lacking any power when it was loaded with 4 people and accompanying luggage. Covered 600 kms in two days in very relaxed fashion, had enough power to overtake at highway speeds.
It's the turbo petrol version and was $68k on the road. |

i drove the x3 30d yesterday, nice drive. plenty of power with my only complaint the initial lag off the mark. once it was up and running nice torquey shove and we controlled body roll. Stop start shocked me iniially thought the car stalled until i realised what happened.
Still torn between the x3 and x5..... may get trashed for saying this but also considering an Q5 3.0D. |

Have the Q5 3.0 TDI for the school run and I think it is a very nice all round package - I can recommend it.
The 2013 Q5 will be a facelift model (not that you'd be able to spot the difference though). The 3.0TDI will put out slightly more grunt (4kW) and the MMI (iDrive equivalent) will also be upgraded. They will also be offering it as an SQ5 with either the 3.0 S/C engine or the twin turbo 3.0TDI (225kW/650Nm if my memory serves me). Definitely worth a look.

I've talked her into waiting a year to see what the new F15 is like.

Rule 1 in life. Never buy something until you can afford to buy three of them. $82k? Tempting. Might go and have a chat.
