Bubble in RFT

I hit a pothole the other day. I first thought that I broke the rim.

Got home, rim is fine, car suspension is fine, alignment is fine. Was counting my blessings when I noticed a slight bubble in the sidewall of the tire (rear right) in question. Tire is not loosing any air (I have checked the pressure every two-three days to make sure).

The tire is bloody expensive to replace (17 inch Dunlop DSST RFT winter). My question to fellow members: is it dangerous to keep driving on the tire ? I am inclined to do nothing about it.

well, maybe the tire itself is bent.

I would be inclined to do nothing as well since winter is almost over. You're taking a chance, but don't you anyways when you drive around the block?

I would just toss it after Winter and get a replacement next year.

OK. But I guess I can't think that I can keep using the tire until the end of its thread life (i.e. next winter etc.)

A bubble in any tyre (runflat or not) is bad news. You will need have it replaced. Take it to a tyre shop and see what they say. Maybe it will be OK for another month or so, or it may need immediate replace (but personally I wouldn't take any risks).

When I got a bubble in the sidewall tire of my old Honda, I was told to replace it immediately and that it wasn't safe to drive on because it could explode at any time due to the instability of the bubble location.

Of course, maybe he was trying to make $45 off me but I didn't want to risk it.

Thank you all for your responses - I guess safety comes first; I'll go have the thing checked out at a tire shop.

Simply: Yes. a bubble is a blowout that is not only waiting but SURE to happen. The only good thing is: Since it´s a RFT, a blowout is not as dangerous as on a non-RFT.
