M1

Has anyone else noticed that all the correspondence from BMW calls the 1 Series M coupe a "M1"? I have just received my fourth correspondence from BMW referring to the car as a "M1"!!!!! From surveys to informational correspondence, it seems like they all refer to the coupe as the M1. So...I guess...we can too call it the M1!!!

Standard lost in translation stuff, some product manager at BMW Germany would be raging over this.

My registration in Georgia says M1 on it. I figured it was just confused southerners but it seems more widespread.

And the door jam of my car calls it a M Coupe which IMO rolls off the tongue better.

There seem to be quite a few 1M's over in the Kennesaw, Cobb, Canton area. I'm over in Cumming/Alpharetta and haven't heard of any others over here yet.

I really don't like calling it a M coupe. To me a 'M coupe' is the e36/8 z3 M coupe and the e86 z4 M coupe.

Kind of like how BMW didn't want to call the car the 1M because there already is a 1M and it’s nothing like this car. I feel the same way about the M coupe name. It’s a completely different car and BMW is ruining the uniqueness of the name by mislabeling the new 1 series M model with the same name.

But that's just me..

I've always been fine with calling it an M1..that's what it is. Any bmw fan can separate the old supercar M1 with the new 1 series M1.
