Most likely not, based on everyone's shared experience.

If it happened with the AC off, that would be one thing, but it's definitely AC related, which points to the recirc flap slamming shut- as verified firsthand by someone else who posted above ^.

But does that sound like its coming from the floor of the footwell? Or more like from the windshield side of the dash? I can't remember if the A/C was on or not and I will pay more attention to it going forward.

Mine does it with the AC on too. Only does it like twice and then doesn't do it anymore. My noise is coming from under the drivers side area

It seems to me like it's coming from behind the glovebox toward the passenger a-pillar- very close to where that flap is (or where the fresh air vent goes).

If you've ever changed your cabin air filter under the door near the windshield, you'll understand what I'm talking about.

I thought it was something with the upper strut mount or the strut bar myself until I read about/noticed the AC correlation.

Mines definitely from the floor board area. It doesn't sound like its coming from the dash/glovebox at all.

Sounds like a different noise in your case, then. It's a pretty loud and dramatic pop.

I was able to turn my AC on and off and get the flap popping sound you were referring to. Mine is significantly louder and different sounding than that.

Very weird. If it's directly underneath the seat, I would check the middle underbrace, as that would be subjet to the most flex and possible noise due to it not being torqued to the proper ft-lb.

My car is experiencing this exact same "pop" noise when the AC is running. I was wondering if anyone has found a way to stop the noise? Anyone had their dealer look into it?

Good luck getting the dealer to identify the problem, as it probably won't materialize while it's there.

It's pretty obvious to me that there's quite a bit of pressure built up behind the flap before it finally releases, which makes that loud pop. I'm not sure what's holding it up but perhaps someone can take their air filter off and check out the assembly.

every 135 i've been in including mine makes this noise. Sounds like it needs to be made into a recall.

Same here with my new 135is...just as Feyd has described...one loud pop. Usually only one time per day like something seats itself.

It happens when the car takes a lot of heat outside and the a/c is immediately on for a couple of minutes, take a little bump in the road and POP.

I'm just used to it. It's fun when I get people in and see the expression they put in their face haha.

Same place, same left turn, about the same speed, same noise.

Third time, slowing to about 25 MPH, hit a mild dip (not enough to even scuff the bottom of the car), and popping sound from the same place. Thought it's either a fairing, or the spring in the front passenger wheel well.

Fourth time, small, and I do emphasize small pothole, popping noise from the same location.

Unless it's serious, it's really an annoyance. I wouldn't expect this from a BMW, or any car that costs as much as this one does.

Another annoyance that I noticed today was the rubber bushing we have that goes along the side of our windows, on the inside of my car, on the passenger side, toward the back, it gets a little jagged. Think about it like when you try to draw a straight line on a computer with the line tool, and move it off by just a bit and it suddenly drops down and then straight again. Once again, more of an annoyance than anything horrible. But not something you would expect on a BMW/pricey car.
Hi, Mega Man, have you resolved your popping noise issue?
Was it sound like this?

I have a similar sound myself. AC and recirulation off completely and it will pop once like it settles, then doesn't do it again for a good long time. The volume of the noise changes and I cant reproduce it on-command. It also seems like it changes location, sometimes from the top of the dash, sometimes from under the glove box but always from the front passenger side.

My sound is AC independent, it's always there no matter AC on or off, and comes from the junction of windshield and A-pillar certainly...

In the case of no AC, it's most likely something to do with the strut brace or strut mount.

open your hood, look in the top left corner. its the thing that has about 3 bolts and it, holds your shock/strut on the car. easy to spot.
