Water pump warranty? My MY2009 135i's just went out.
55k miles, 2009 135i produced in late 2008. Waterpump is dead. How does BMW keep fucking this up? Every single car they make...I bet it's a plastic impeller too...
So, are there any service bulletins or recalls I can take advantage of to get this replaced on BMW's dime?

There are no recalls with the waterpump.
Dealership will charge around $1200 for replacement/bleeding. I highly recommend you buying the waterpump/thermostat kit from the dealership because it will come with a 2 year manufacture defect warranty, and DIYing it/indie shop. getbmwparts, or bmw of alexandria I bought my pump about a year ago, and couple days ago, there was signs of leakage from the actual pump. I brought it to BMW, they diagnosed it, and the replacement was free of charge. Hope this helps. |

If you get the WP replaced at the dealer it will come with a 24 month unlimited mileage warranty. They replaced the thermostat, WP, antifreeze and some parts. Damage was $1550. There is some discussion her that the new pump is better (redesigned?) than the original. Mine went at 72K. Most won't last to 80K.

My WP/Thermostat died at 108K miles. (Currently at 142K on my 09 135i) Purchased my WP/T from FCP Euro and made it my first DIY project on the car. - Lifetime Warranty.

I wonder if anyone knows if BMW has confirmed that the new pump is a different design not prone to an early failure. Much like the early HPFP.

I don't recall seeing any paperwork on it, but I did compare the new pump to the old one. It's designed a bit differently.

Ordered my part from Tischer. Should be in on Monday....
I was 6 months out of CPO warranty...otherwise, they would've covered it. Bummer!

I lucked out and my pump gave out just last week, at 79k and two months shy of my cpo expiring. Guess I should thank this SoCal heat we've had lately |

I'm glad you got your water pump replaced under BMW warranty. I hope more people end up destroying their pumps while under warranty. It might inspire BMW to make their pumps reliable for once in two decades.

No, they won't because they make more money this way. After owning three BMWs, my conclusion is that they don't build cars/parts to last. The cars start to fall apart right after warranty

What I was saying is that warranties like the water pump cost BMW money because they're paying for the part.
But you're right. They've pretty much designed everything to fail after warranty. PITA.
