You can also have them delivered to your closest UPS customer pickup depot. For me - that is in Bellingham WA near Bellis Fair Mall. (2162 Midway LN). Then you just drive down and pick them up - convenient and no brokerage fees or delays.

Fill up the car, to save enough to pay for the gas driving dowm there (gasoline is 20% cheaper in the US), pick up some steaks and chicken at Cost Cutters on the way home. That way if the family questions where you have been just say "picking up the groceries"...

:-)

there's not going to be a way to get "steelies" on the 135 is there? I really don't want to spend tons of money on a set of rims that have a high chance of getting curbed/bent.

Definitely buy through Gill @ TireRack. It is about 60% of that price after shipping, duty, brokerage and exchange to CAD for the 18's I got. 17's would even be cheaper.

which 18"s are you getting? I am looking at some bridgestone lm-25s, 45s in the front and 45s in the back, so adding 5 and 10 to tyre wall heigh respectively... I am unsafely assuming it will be fine...

are you using your original wheels?

I certainly am planning on doing so... I have the road hazard coverage for canada as well, I am hoping/assuming/wondering that it will still cover my wheels over the winter even if I change the tyres...

any good reasons why not to use the original wheels over the winter?

According to my SA, the road hazard coverage on applies to tires & rims fitted by a BMW Dealer or BMW Authorised Third Party.

Road Hazard coverage at all BMW dealers is not always the same. Mine, if I was told properly is not from BMW so it covers any tire/rim I put on the car. I will verify this... If I was told wrong, I will pass it on... I hope not though, because that was one of their selling points.

do the 17s fit out of the box? I have 18s on the 135. Can I just install 17s without any mods??

I'm thinking of getting the M3s too from tirerack...

Also, does anyone know if the 18 inch winter tires will give more ground clearance?

I live in an area of Montreal where the streets are tight, and I have to go through an alley to park the 1.

More ground clearance would be great.

I bought the ASA AR2's in 18x8 and put 225/40/18's all around.

Pardon my ignorance, but with Tirerack, who puts your tires on? A local intsaller for Tirerack, or you choose one on your own?

Thanks.

Tirerack has "recommended installers" on the website but I think they are only in the USA not Canada. One thing to note...I bought a new set of tires for my old car thru tirerack last year (incredible price) and brought them up to Vancouver. I drove to the local tire store and they refused to instal the tires as I didn't by them from that store. I called around and one other store said the same thing but I found one store that would instal. He asked if I got them in the US and he happily put them on. He said he was getting lots of business just like me so he was making $$ on the installs.
