First DIY Service on the 135i

Well, I've had the 135i for 2 weeks now and decided to change the engine oil and brake fluid. With all the DIY instructions on here it was reasonably easy!
It's a lot easier to work on than my mx5.

But of course I got screwed around with the crappy plastic jacking points.
I started off using the traditional "w" / "v" jack stands which really stuffed one of my jacking points up. Ended up getting some new Kincrome jacks and cutting some small blocks of wood:

Stuffed jacking point:

Good jacking point:

To help others, these are the jacks I bought. They were $40 at Auto-one.

Now waiting for these from Amazon (US). Postage was ~$20.

Liking the car so far! And reasonable to maintain. Now I'm changing oil/fluids early but I can't seem to reset the service indicators. I'm guessing you can't reset them early?

Sorry if this is all old info - just trying to help the aussies out there. We tend to get ripped off when it comes to parts here.

Resetting the service lights is easy. Here is how...

Here is a much better oil changing DIY. Maybe you want to post your pics there. ? Btw... don't start posting DIY stuff in the regional section. Its easier if we all look/search in the same place: DIY

This DIY might be in your future.

Thanks Dackelone. I know what I was doing wrong, I was pressing the reset button instead of holding it and waiting for the clock to appear.

All good now!

Ah yep. Will move my pics over when I get a chance. I'll have more photos too when my filters and oil wrench cap come.

The jacking points cost about $25 each to replace.

The oil filter cap can easily be removed without damage using a conventional oil filter strap wrench. Probably too late now?

Thanks for the info guys. Might as well get the jacking point replaced.
Yep, I was using the oil filter strap and a cloth before. Thought I'd get a cap as it could only make things easier.

Next thing is to to book in a coolant flush. Sounds like too much effort to do myself. Car only has 25000 kms but it's getting close to 4 years.
