Rolling the REAR fenders...Doable? Waste of time?

Hey folks i'll get right to the point

On 265s with a 10mm spacer, the rear tires rub. Interestingly, it appears to be almost exclusive to the driver's side rear tire - regardless of how many passengers are in the car. It's not a brutal rub, but it does it too often on dips and long, winding turns (entrance ramps).

So there are numerous avenues to fix this but I figured i'd start with what appears to be the easiest. How doable is a fender roll out back? The material seems extremely hard and rigid in comparison to the front fender and liner. I don't need a ton of room, thinking a touch more camber and a roll would get the job done. I'm just not sure if it's feasible.

If that doesn't work i'd probably go to stiffer coils for less compression under load.

Thanks as always

Yes, you can roll the rear fenders on the 1 series. There is some 'filler' in the lip that will need to be cut out and removed in order to roll the lip flat. You should be fine with a roll if you're only rubbing on bumps

Thx - super helpful.

Yea when on good pavement it's not an issue, it's only on dips or long turns where there is a lot of load being put on the springs (a looping highway entrance ramp, for instance).

It actually looks like there's a lot of material to roll, I just wasn't aware that you could do anything with it.

Mine used to rub the same way you describe yours. Fixed it with a rear roll. Had to cut out that sealant though. What a bitch of a job that was. FWIW not all shops that do fender rolling will be able to roll the rear on this car. The first place I went started rolling, encountered resistance from that corner under there, got scared and stopped. Second shop knew what they were doing and rolled it back and up without pulling the fender much at all.

The first thing to do is figure out where you are rubbing. It might be just the inner liner. I'd just trim the liner and see if the rubbing goes away.

It's the fender at about 11 o'clock. Not the liner, the actual fender. I rode around with someone in the back seat for the first time in probably a year yesterday and it wasn't pretty

No filler on mine, rolled a solid extra inch

Why not just ditch the spacers though?!

No excuses, I just really like how 265 looks with a 10mm spacer on the wheel. Fills things out pretty nicely. I've created problems for myself here

OK if I remember i'll snap one after work. It looks nice but is dumb, i'll probably yank the spacer once I go up to a 275 after these tires are shot. But then IDK if i'll have enough room inboard to the strut? Blegh

I feel your pain - I had same issue (driver's side rear rubbing) with 18x9 (40mm offset) after I went from 255 to 265. I maxed out camber to -2.3 and still rubbed - rolled the fenders and still just barely rubbing - ended up raising the rear half an inch and no more rubbing!

what offsets?

anything lower than +62 and you should have plenty of strut>wheel/tire

I can understand suffering for the look - i'm having to raise my rear a little to get rid of the scrub

+62 but then 10MM spacer. I'll find out what 275 looks like
