Guys, I am just blown away at the response. All I wanted to do was vent some of my anger and stress, but this entire community comforted me. Sorry that it sounds a bit cheesy, but it does make me feel better knowing that everyone has my back. I am not sure about my wrist, as I was holding the steering wheel with it as the airbags deployed and I made impact with the other car. -Ksfrogman, yeah, the airbag cut up and burned my hands pretty good. But I think this is a small price to pay as opposed to crashing my body/face into the steering wheel or windshield. --Also he didn't hit me because he got in front of me, but we hit at about the same time(his front drivers and my front pass). I did not try to swerve as I didn't even see him come at me...totally blindsided and never saw it comming. I was actually accelerating as I made impact, not braking. My car then jumped after impact and landed slightly to the left, while his spun around 180 degrees on to a front lawn. The only thing I remember was listening to a good audioslave song on the mp3 cd, and BAM..I smack the face into the airbag (but again, not too hard since I had the seatbelts on). It was the second most violent thing that I have ever experienced (the first was getting hit head on by a car while on my motorcycle --broken collerbone!--that's a different story on its own). Oh yeah, the cd kept playing...it will be pretty weird hearing that song again. Again, I will keep you posted on any updates as this whole nightmare passes by. Once again, thanks everyone. You mean a lot to me.

hotsand5, sorry to hear about your accident. As everyone else said, cars can be fixed and replaced.
About your wrist injury, make sure you get it checked out thoroughly for possible fracture of the scaphoid bone, at the base of the thumb. This type of fracture is quite occult, with the pain gradually creeping up on you over a few day's time, and the healing is delayed due to poor anatomical blood supply.

Good thing you were wearing your seat belt. This is a perfect example of how important it is to have your seat belt on before you drive off, regardless of how short your trip is or how 'soon' you are going to put your seat belt on after driving.
Anyways, I hope everything will go fine. Recover soon and hope everything would work out the way you want to. |

gearcraft, it was "I am the highway." By the way, I had the car towed to Kanuz BMW, some 60 miles from my house to have the car repaired there. I found out that it is one of only 2 in the state of Illinois to be BMWNA certified and 1 of 20 in the country for MB. I told them to give my baby the best that insurance money can buy--- I mean fly in Chris Bangle himself if needed! Just don't let him touch my trunk!!!
Not only are all their techs certified by BMWNA, but their tools, machines, tolerances and specs are all kept under a watchful eye. They told me one of the main reasons that 99% of all collision shops are not BMWNA certified is because they do not have the resouces and tools to fix the frames of the cars to the specifications set by BMWNA. For instance, they have a $1,000,000 machine just for frames that can handle the sensitivity of our exotic alloy compounds found in the frame which can match OEM specs within about 2-3mm. They also said that one of the only places that uses a water based base coat solution (but I got lost after that, so I'm not sure of the processes). Im sure all of this is going to cost a shiny nickel, but hey, it's not comming out of my policy. I will find out tuesday the extent of the damage and will have some high res. photos of the car.

That is the beauty of German Engineering. You can walk away with a few scratches. Glad to hear you are on the mend. Hopefully your car can be repaired as well. Very sad to see it all smacked up though.

Updated pics
Well I went over to the bmw body shop this afternoon, and the previous pictures posted on here were an understatement to say the least. A lot more damage than I thought, and the guy there said a lot of frame damage...so much as the roof caved slightly under the passenger side (but you cannot tell in the pictures). He also said that the engine is in pretty bad shape too. I'm just hoping that it gets totalled now and I get a new one!

there is no way they will fix that....too much damage, and way too much liability involved if they do repair it. you should definitely talk to the adjuster and push for a total loss
glad to hear that you are ok though, a real testament to the safety of bmws

I agree...in these photos (with the hood up), the car looks in really bad shape. I'll be surprised if it wasn't written off. The impact speed must have been great!! Seeing pics like yours make me feel good about buying the e90 with its safety feature and all.
Again, we are all glad to see that you are alright
