RFT are almost toast what should i do?

The RFT that originally came on my 128i are almost at the end of their lives. Unfortunately they were the particularly bad RFT made by Pirelli. I am debating new wheels altogether or maybe the potenza sport RFT, not the best tire option but I am wary of just cruising around with no spare and non RFT. Even if I upgrade my wheels i am considering RFT, I know you all seem to hate them, but what have others done for a spare, and is there a good RFT that i for some reason have never heard of.

Dont just tell me to "ditch the RFT" give me a solution

How often have any of us had an actual blow out? I've lived with my M Coupe for going on eleven years and nearly 130k miles, with no spare and no RFT's and had one blow out on the highway, from a crappy Toyo T1-R that was bad news from the start. It took about an additional hour out of my life to have BMW Roadside (AAA) tow my car back to my house and get a new tire the next morning. Why bother with the awful ride of RFT's when there's so little benefit? Even if you go with a great tire like Michelin PS2s (which I love on the M Coupe) you'll still save money and can pay for AAA coverage, or just the contingency of needing a tow. My wife's 135i will be losing the RFT's in the next month and we'll probably put PS2's on that too.

Michelin has a sale on some tires at Tire Rack. Personally, I like the idea of the Yokohama AD08s. I have AD07s on my Lotus, and they are great. With year round chilled out temps in Sandy Eggo, there is no reason to compromise on tires or do expensive run flats. Just carry a can of fixaflat with you. Also, run flats are generally not repairable, vs. regular tires which are (with a patch)

I think what you choose is really going to depend on the mid of driving you do. Based on what I have seen so far with my 128, I think having the best tires possible mOws alot of sense.

Consider:

*Cost of RFTs vs. standard tires
*Chances of a blowout
*Cost of replacing the rft vs repairing a standard tire (in a some scenarios)
*Ride and handling differences

In the end, going with standard tires and a can of fix-a-flat just made more sense to me.

I went with Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs when my runflats were done and I haven't looked back since.

They aren't runflats, but I always have a couple cans of fix-a-flat along with a small repair kit, just in case. The Dunlops are superior to the runflats in every way, performance, comfort, etc etc. There are good options that are ever cheaper than the Direzzas, but the Direzzas have some amazing grip.

You can use the runflats as boat bumpers.

If you really aren't interested in the performance differences just call Gill at the Tire Rack and he'll set you up with something you'll be happy with.
