Where do used wheels go to rest?
Hey guys,
I wanted to know what you guys do with the old rims when you replace them? The OEM wheels on my car are not in bad shape and I would hate to just toss them once I got an upgrade. I don't have the space to keep them, so I wanted to know what the best was to handle the used rims. Do you sell them to online businesses, list them on Craigslist, drop them off to get melted, installing shops that have buy back options or whatever. By the way I live in Northern Virginia. Thanks in advance for any help. |

I sold my stock rims to some guys from the 'hood at a mcdonalds after meeting them on Craigslist. They were actually totally cool dudes and really nice... just sketchy as hell at first. Got about 500 bucks for the stock 135i rims, with only minor imperfections in the finish.
Otherwise, keep them if you ever sell the car and the buyer wants the car totally stock, or try eBay or the marketplace on the forums. Last resort would be a scrapyard, because they're pretty damn expensive, especially for being "plain" looking alloy wheels.

I put them all in storage since I had room. I no longer have run-flats so, if I ever need a backup, I have one.

Any dealer that you may want to trade your car into is going to want the stock wheels and likely tires with a little meat left. I'm hoping to store mine in my dads basement on a wheel tree to keep effects of concrete and rubber down.

I don't have storage space or want to pay to keep them in storage. So I was thinking of getting some $$$ from these to put toward the new wheels. I was looking for the methods folks used to get rid of theirs just like 1speedbike and the McDonalds exchange.
