I forgot to mention this $99,980 deal was on new 520d's ordered - not a second hand/demo that's in stock.

123d > 120i and 125. Sure it's not a petrol engine, but how many other cars are around with 400nm of torque, good fuel economy and is decently quick.

TDI VW? Surprised would you even compare those to the BMW diesels. Don't hold a candle to them..

Shame we don't get a 325d in Australia by the way, 480nm.

Hi Pual

For your needs, i will 1000% recommend you to get the diesel version.
I will give you my opinion on those two models.
I am pretty sure you are looking for a auto version.
So diesel cost $2500 more than the petrol.

Comparing a 2008 model.

Pros:
*15 more kw
*140 more torque (torque kicked in alot quicker @1750rpm vs petrol@ 3600rpm thus feels alot faster)
*You get 2 extra litre of fuel per 100km compare to the petrol version.
*Easier over take driving on highway.
(In my opinion, higher resale value)

Cons
*Diesel clatter sound on start up/standby
*Petrol engine rev sounds so much better
*Diesel cost more than petrol on average $1.5/L (but i did find 2places that have constantly $1.39/L)

Good luck and hope you get the 120d soon!

Guys - what is the difference between the M Sport and base model?

As I understand it, the M Sport gets the bodykit, sports suspension (is it lower or stiffer, or both?), sports steering wheel and sports wheels?

The msport interior is darker grey for the roof lining and pillars. And sport seats are standard

I have to agree, but for me, it's the seats. Really super supportive. You can dial/pump up the support you need and drive highway all day without getting tired. OK, OK, it looks more aggressive, too, (and I like the steering wheel as well).

I'll leave it to better drivers than me to say whether the changes to the suspension set up make a noticeable difference.

+ 1 on the 120d. I've driven the 123d a few times and it put a huge smile on my face. I've also driven the new X3 20d and it still had decent pulling power on the highway. I assume the same engine is in the 120d so given it weighs a whole lot lighter it would make for a great car. Plus it has great fuel economy, not sure why anyone would choose the petrol variant instead - It's not like you need to hear the beasty naturally aspirated 4 cylinder under the hood! I would also opt for the M sport, looks a whole lot nicer and adds some nice touches. Good luck

I'd pick the 120d M Sport anyday of the week. And this is coming from someone who has daily'd a 116i, 118i, 118d, 120i, 120d and 130i over the last few years...

Keen to check out a 123d however!

If you like even the slighest of spirited driving go the Diesel.I love my 120i, but the chassis is just so underpowered, the car is capable of far more, and with the weight of the car, the engine is just not quite enough, and mine is manual too, an Auto would be horrible.

I test drove a diesel, and it felt very good. The 0-100 times are supposedly the same for both cars but it is the torque, that is very useful, that you benefit from and will never regret.

Don't think the 130s ever got the USB slot at all, just the AUX socket.
