OP I hope you dont mind me asking, but how did you manage to get the 1st customer 1M? Do you know someone high up at BMW? Get lucky to be allocated the 1st one? Paid extra to have it first?

No worries if you don't want to answer, but would be interesting to know when you first contacted your dealer to say you were interested and then actually confirmed your order etc?

Thanks again for the great write up - just one more question - is it as good as you had hoped?

WLKSFTLY, please note that some of the 'attachements' in your posts on page 1 are not working.
When you click on it, you get "Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator."

Otherwise, great job. Thanks

Edit: problem seems solved.

The sound is amazing, especially at the lower rpms (3000 - 4500) That's something that the inline-6 lacks.

Huh? This is an inline-6 (twin turbo).

I know it's an inline-6, I meant that other inline-6's usually lack that lower range, while this does not. Sorry for the vagueness.

i was reading your comments about the brakes, suspension, and wheels. Interesting that people will go out of their way to pay goola amount of money to have some "brembo" 4 pot calipers. In reality, all they need is a better performance, better friction brake pads. I still remember the brakes on my 'ol E36 M3. I didn't see the need to upgrade to some 4 pot calipers. I just upgraded the rotors to some slotted ones, some Pagid sport brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, and bled the brake fluid with some Ate Super Blue brake fluid. It was more than enough on a car that had a Dinan/VOrtech S/C, cams, throttle body, exhaust, etc...
It would appear that everything was carefully considered on this car; nothing was slapped on to create this baby monster.
Well enjoy your vacation and new ride.

I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm trying to be gentle on it, even though we're using 9/10 of it.

It happens that I'm in the pool of people who do believe that you should use as it will be used, but all my experience has been Porsche, VW and Toyota. I babied the Posche, it didn't help me. The VW and Toyota were red lined every gear, every day, for 200k km each and each are still in the stable, using not one drop of oil.

In all but the one launch though third gear did the peddle touch the floor. Every other point in video or photos was acheived without full throttle. (I guess there were a couple moments on the high speed run too, when we were eating up straights a bit too quickly, but they were moments, 2-3 seconds).

Someone in one their posts said it best, what would you do? I live in Ontario. We have a government that believes that nobody has a need to go above 150 km/h (or 30 over for the US guys, 93 mph). At 150 km/h you loose your license, are fined $10,000, they impound your car and off you go to jail for a bit.....Before this, they just fine the crap out of you and your insurance skyrockets.

I'll do my best not to hurt anything, and I'm not doing these things specifically for this post.

While I'm here, I'm going to enjoy. I can drive it slow for years to come back at home.
Any experience with the Cayman S? I'd like to hear the comparison.

I spent quite a bit of time in the cayman S....I think the standard 135i w/ sport package is far better...so this must not even be comparable

Would you mind taking a pic of the rear exhaust? What I'm looking for is the underside.

TIA

It all depends what you want to use the car for. My 135i was a track only tool, an initially I got braided lines, dot 5 racing fluid, racing compound pads etc, but it just wasn't up to scratch. Dont forget this car had Brembo 6 pot as standard. I upgraded to a set of bigger AP Racing brakes that was designed more for racing, and it made a world of difference in braking power and I would now be able to run for many more laps without fade. Lap times come down by 1 second a lap at my home track too as I was able to brake 30m later on the front straight from 220kmh down to 110kmh.

With my personal experience of M3 brakes, I can tell you now that it won't hold up for hard core track or racing application.
