Ground Clearance?

For the lucky owners of the 1M, what is the ground clearance of the lowest point of the front bumper? Is there a felt like material like the E92 M3s?

Be very careful.

I haven't checked, but if it's anything like my E91 330D then one can snag the bumper over a kerb and almost rip it off!

The underneath of the front buumper on my 330D looked like a tiger had been fighting with it. I'll post pics later. Not a pretty sight.

That's a bit scary for Edmonton winter driving.

Or rock fall. Hopefully if you snag the fins they'll snap off before tearing a hole in the cover.

I've already scraped the bottom of the spoiler going up a driveway that was steeper than I thought. I hate it when it's so loud everyone turns and looks!

Should be fun in those deep ruts on the side streets, no?

Thanks, for the info.

Seems like it's higher than the E92 and E46 M3. That's good.

Exhuming this thread from the 1addicts dungeons.

Can someone please specify the official ground clearance figure of the 1M (stock ride height) ?

At first glance, it ain't mentioned in official docs ("Details not yet available") and I never measured it.

Your 6" (152 mm) figure seems quite more than I assume.

Comparison:
  • BMW M235i ground clearance is 5.1 in (130 mm);
  • BMW M2 ground clearance is 4.8 in (123 mm);
  • BMW M3/M4 ground clearance is 4.72 in (120 mm);
  • Cayman GT4 ground clearance is 4.1 in (105 mm).

Ok, got the answer. Official 1M ground clearance figure is 120 mm (same as M3/M4).

So:
  • BMW M235i ground clearance is 5.12 in (130 mm);
  • BMW M2 ground clearance is 4.84 in (123 mm);
  • BMW 1M ground clearance is 4.72 in (120 mm);
  • BMW M3/M4 ground clearance is 4.72 in (120 mm);
  • Cayman GT4 ground clearance is 4.13 in (105 mm).

I would have thought that is was the same as the E9X M3 since it shares the same wheels, sub-frame and diff. The cooling fins on the diff have to be the lowest point.
