Brief preliminary comparison My 1M vs My TT RS

You guys have already seen the 1M, mine is Alpine white. I just picked up my tt rs. Both cars are amazing yet quite different. Both cars imo look great. The 1m looks more taut and muscular, the tt rs is definitely prettier. Both cars are in break in period so haven't exceeded 5500 rpm in the 1m, and 5000 rpm in the tt rs.

Both cars ride quite well, the Audi rides better in normal setting and is not much stiffer than the 1m in sport mode. The rs has magnetic ride so stiffens up somewhat, not as much as I thought it would. Both cars ride on 19" wheels. I have Michelins on the 1M, and Toyo's on the Audi.

Base throttle response is better in the 1M, ok in the Audi. In sport mode, the 1M is noticeably quicker in throttle response. The Audi 's response doesn't seem to get that much quicker in sport mode, just a little bit.

Exhaust sound - no question the tt rs, I have the factory sport exhaust. There is something really cool about the 5 cylinder sound.

Steering feel - definitely the 1M. Audi feels a little too boosted, and light for my taste. Much better than other Audi's though.

Esthetics of engine bay - definitely the Audi. Looks like engines use to look.

Handling - they are both incredible. They both go through turns differently. RWD vs AWD and weight balance of the car.

Clutch feel - definitely the BMW, the Audi's engagement point is throwing me off. I have more experience with BMW's and Porsche's anyway.

Shifter - pretty equal, I like the tt rs shifter feel a lot more than I thought.

I'll post more after some more seat time and post break in miles.

Good comparison. I drove the RS and it does sound incredible only thing as you mentioned was the clutch feel, hard to get consistent smooth shifts. Not a problem in the 1M. You have 2 amazing cars that compliment eachother well!

Perfect combo would be a 1M and an RS3.

Car looks sweet. ESC OFF was asking about interior. My opinion is Audi S/RS interiors have always surpassed BMW's M interiors, especially the seats, IMO of course.

Yes the seats in the RS are better but the ones in the 1m are not bad either. I have base models in each one without upgraded radio, nav, tech package etc. The RS is also about $10K more. The RS3 would have been great if we got it in the U.S.

2 very sweet cars you have there. I think the ultimate question is which one will you end up driving more!

Any plans for mods? The TTRS engine has plenty of potential like the N54.

Nice pair of cars! DSG is not available in the US. With DSG TT-RS can do 0-60 around 3.6ish

I love the car. I considered it as well but went the Z4. I love small cars! Enjoy.

I love the suzuka grey and the I-5. What a little beast. We will be seeing this motor in a lot of RS offerings in the future.

I personally like the exterior of the 1M better but do agree Audi RS interiors have been of higher quality/design than BMW/MB.

Its a shame we don't get the performance bucket seats as an option here in the US.

I do like white - but my RS is Suzuka Gray. It is hard to tell in the picture unless you park it next to a white car.

Can you give us an update? Whats the verdict now? The tt-rs seems to be faster, but the bmw seems to feel better from what everyone says. Do you have a favorite now? whats best for the track?

Now that I have a few miles in each - they are both great. I really can't pick one. The RS has a overall lighter feel to its controls. I am used to the clutch now. It sounds great with sport exhaust on. The exhaust sound cuts through better than the 1M because it is a unique 5 cylinder sound that I'm not used to hearing. It sounds like a cello in an orchestra. You hear the violins so much, the cello is a nice change when you hear it. The steering is a little too light for my taste but fine.
The 1M will probably feel better on the track because you can get it to oversteer. The steering feel is better in the 1M. The shifter is also slightly better in the 1M.
They are both equally rare cars so it is special when you get into either one.
I'd be happy to answer any specific questions about either one.

thanks for returning to this comparison....just out of curiosity, which one feels like it pulls harder to you? Which one is more fun to drive?

The 1M definitely pulls harder at lower RPM's. The traction control light will flicker at times. The power seems to drop off above 5000 rpm though. The RS doesn't seem to do much under 2000 rpm then comes alive and pulls pretty strongly till redline at around 7000. There seems to be more of a rush at the top end in the RS which I really like. The 1M's handling is more playful. The RS has a lot of stick and I have not been able to get it unglued yet. I probably need a wet surface. Both are destined to be classics. It is a great time to be a car enthusiast.

Thx for the review, and great to see you have both specimens in your stable. I test drove a TT-RS (my Audi dealer knows me well and was kind enough to let me do it even know he knew I had the 1///M already and won't be buying it ). Extremely fun, sound was amazing indeed (car had the optional exhaust), and the power delivery with that big(er) single turbo makes you giggle every time it smacks you in the neck! Congrats and would love to see it in person, Suzuka Grey is a very nice color!

PS: You should come out next time we have the NYC RS meet/run, it is generally around May-June and we have folks coming from Boston, Philly, heck, we had a guy come from TX last time!

Very nice pair.

I hope RS3 would be launched in States too and this is the best pair with 1M.
