Any AW's get a leaking sow belly yet?
Mine leaves a nice dirt trail at the bottom of the sow belly from the dirty rain water that has collected just inside the bottom door sill. This is clearly visible on AW. Just needs to be wiped clean or washed, not really a big deal, but thought I'd mention it.

Its probably more something to do with the design of the door on the 1 so it wouldn't happen on other AW Bimmers.

I have the same issue on my X3, and have determined it is from the drains in the bottom of the door. I believe it is just the residue from the sealant/lubricants in the door that has collected in the bottom of the door, so when it rains, a film of this stuff drains out with the rain, making the streaks you see. It has taken almost an entire winter and most of the Seattle spring rains to finally wash most of this residue out of the bottom of the door to the point it has very little streaking now. The only thing to do in the mean time is wash it and keep the area waxed.

My e90 had a spot on the front doors that did the same thing. It's definitely more noticeable on the e82 in AW though... even the run off from washing your car creates a new trail of gray.

Yes the good old 1er pot belly. Not only is it a quite unattractive curve that detracts from the rest of the beautiful lines of the car, but it is also functional as a drainage ditch for the filthy roadway splash up water. THANKS BMW DESIGN TEAM!!!

Honestly, the "sow belly" does not contribute to the "leak" at all. It just looks that way.
It seems to me that water from the front windscreen drains down near the front door hinge into the area of the door sill, and ends up leaking down the side. If you look at the door sill after a while, the entire sill is dirty from the drainage water collecting there. Just thinking out loud and off the top of my head right now, it might be possible to put some putty somewhere close to the leading edge of the door sill to force the drainage, rather than let the water travel back along the door sill. |
