Powered seats...worth it?
So, I notice a lot of people don't get the powered seats option (unless they got premium pkg). I guess the question I have is what is it like adjusting the seats manually? And especially what is it like when someone gets in the back seat? Does it get out of the way easily? And does it go back to where it was before easily as well? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks!! |

the manual seats are great... they get out of the way nicely to let a passenger into the rear and they also come back to where you had them originally positioned... and the nice part is you don't have to wait a month for the seats to do this like with the power seats...

Sport seats a must. Power seats a waste for me as I was trying to keep my 135 as close to 35k as possible.

Don't know if they go lower then the power but they do go up and down and it really does not take long to get them to were you want...

I have manual sport seats but only to save money. If it was a no cost option (it's not), I would choose power.

The only advantage they have is memory. Otherwise - it takes just a few seconds to adjust. The adjustments are the same. The standard seats have the electric lumbar adjustment too.

NO power seats! waste of $$$'s, and when the car gets older we all know they tend to stop working.
I never adjust the seat, unless my Gf takes the car. It takes me 3 seconds to bring the seat back where i want it. Whats the big deal? Same thing with power mirrors, i adjusted them the day i got the car and never have touch them sinse then.... That should be an option too, if you ask me

I agree. The manual seats are perfect. You get longitudal direction, height, backrest, tilt and thigh support adjustments (manual). These work very quickly and effectively. In addition, you get an elctrical switch for backrest width. You also get convenient entry, for rear seat entry with previous position memory that works faster than the all-electric seats. All in all - there is nothing different except you have to use a few muscles.

It's one less thing to break for those of us who intend to keep the car beyond the warranty.

Power seats are great but not needed with BMW sport seats. I have sat in both. If somebody said "GET THE POWER SEATS AND I WILL PAY FOR THEM" then I would get them. OK.

i'm curious how much weight the power seats add. i personally need power seats because i need to make adjustments while driving to get a good seating position and also, the power seats have more fine adjustments for the best driving position possible. also, i like the memory function. although i don't use that as often.

Memory Seats are nice to have
in my case I'll be sharing the car with my wife. I really appreciate the memory seats in our 5-series. The non-memory power seats in my e36 convertible are a waste.

Do the power seats have a quick release to let people into the back? or do you have to use some sort of powered motor to lean the seat forward? It would be kind of lame if the power seats took longer to let someone in the back.

you pull a mechanical thing in the back of the seat and it leans forward, this is enough space for most people to get in, but if you want to move it even further up, there's an electric button you hold and then when you move it back it remembers your position. it moves relatively slowly. but if i planned to have people in the back all the time i wouldn't get a 1er to begin with.

So a mechanical handle allows you to quickly lean the seat forward and the only time you need to use the electrical switch is when that's not enough? If so then that should be fine. I don't have people in the back much anyway and if I do the forward leaning seat will probably be enough to let them in.
