How many 08 1 series are coming to the states and when will they stop shipping?

Is there a set number of 2008 1 series cars coming to the states? A salesman told me that the 09's will arrive in October. What is the order date cut off for the 08's?

I've heard that they were planning to release about 10K 1 series cars to the US for model year 08. That encompasses all the 1ers including the 128i, 135i and verts in both flavors. So the 08 1 series will be fairly rare.

Depends on your frame of reference. It's rare when you compare it to the 3-series at 146,000/yr.

Considering there were over 16M new vehicles sold last year* in the US, that's pretty rare. (.0625%)

My local dealer is only getting a dozen or so total for this model year, and they are the only dealer within 100 miles, so they will be really rare in this area for a while.

I think that's of the 135's. I expect the 800 is 'all up'. But, what would I know?

Most factories in Germany - including BMW's - shut down for the month of August every year - that is when Europeans take their holidays. They also do plant maintenance then.

The last two weeks of July will be the production end run for the '08 model. Working backwards from then, you will probably see the last accepted orders into the system in about a month.

In September, they will start to produce the '09 model, which would start arriving in October (if they allocate to North America). So if you don't already have an order in for the 'Year of the ONE" - you'd better not hold off too much longer!

If people suddenly all want a 1 series and start ordering, I think BMW will be happy to increase the number of units coming here.

10k units/yr is not rare. Honda sells less S2k's than that per year IIRC.

A 6-speed 135i might be a somewhat rare and eventually very desirable combo however.

I'm not trying to say that they are so rare that they're going to be some sort of collectible some day. I'm simply saying that given the population of the US, and the number of cars sold each year, you're probably not going to see a lot of 1ers on the road. (With the exception of maybe a few major metropolitan areas)

+or- 2500 135i's sold in the 50 states = +or- 50 in each state. That seems pretty rare to me. Not Lambo rare but rare...

The dealer by me said 11,000 1 series total this year. The 09's should start in sept. 08. I hope they double the amount in 09. So more 135i manuals are on lots.

Maybe not. I was speaking with my local Porsche dealer and he told me that cars in high demand here and abroad might just stay in Europe given the current weakness of the dollar against the Euro.

If you have a 1er on order consider yourself lucky.

Compared to a 3 series coupe I doubt anyone will see many 1'ers. I've only seen one or two on the road so far, I live in a major metropolitan area.

I don't think so. BMW is very good about keeping the supply lines tight which creates desirability in the mind of the consumer. Look at the Mini, 6 years after introduction and they still go for MSRP and you can hardly find any on dealer lots. And this was going on even when gas was between $2-3. Also, both the Mini and the 1-series are built at only one plant, Oxford and Leipzig.

Chrysler did exactly the opposite with their last 2 hits, the Cruiser and the 300. Flooded the market, sold all they could and now they can't give them away.

On top of that it's very likely that they don't have the excess production capacity for an increase even if they wanted to. It may not be in final assembly, but it's very likely they would have a hard time producing additional engines or transmissions, or body panels, or some other major component that would prevent a significant increase in overall production.

I work in the auto manufacturing industry, and the equipment is typically designed with 24/7 production in mind to meet goals, so it's not like you can just add overtime and get a lot more out of it.

Makes me feel special to know ill have something that will turn heads and have people say "hey what bimmer is that "??
