Do you have the extra cupholder?

Referring to the removable pull out cup holder on the passenger side. Also post the date you got your car so we can see if this is date specific.

EDIT:

It appears bmw's offical policy is to install it on iDrive and not on non-iDrive, so for those of you that have it without iDrive, post details. It seems you are the exception to the rule...

Also as TagMan said if you know about item #442 being on your order let us know.

Yes, with iDrive... Order date 1/11... Delivery date 3/19

I totally agree with the idea of this poll. It is completely logical that because the iDrive controller takes away one of the original two console cupholders, that the second auxilliary cupholder is added by being hung on the right side of the console. I had posted this quite a ways back, but then we had some posters tell us that they did not have the iDrive, but still had the cupholder for some unknown reason!

Since then, I have questioned that perhaps the answer is embedded in the order process when the VIR is generated, and part #442 (cupholders) shows up due to the way the dealer inputs the order.

I am anxious to see the results here, as I do believe that the addition of iDrive provides the single most obvious and logical reason to add the extra cupholder.

Good idea to do this poll! :w00t:

So, as before, it already looks like the iDrive is not the single variable here.

As I posted on the other thread about cupholders, the VIR paperwork should be checked carefully to see if the dealer order somehow included item #442 or not.

I figured it out. Check the other thread. Your comment about option 442 got me headed in the right direction.

Jeremy, you're losing me here... I do believe that if I had already suggested that the inclusion of item #442 on the V.I.R. caused the vehicle to be built with the cupholder, then I had already figured it out. You provided additional evidence to support my theory, and that's great!! Thank you!!!!

Oh there's no question in my mind that the option 422 matches to the cars with cupholders. I was just trying to figure out how it got on the orders in the first place since it's only supposed to come with Idrive equipped cars.

I'd be interested to know if it's something the dealers can add to an order, or if it's completely automatic.

Careful... It's #442, not #422. The dealer's software is fairly flexible, but that's a good question, and here's the answer. Of course the dealer can deliberately add it... by adding the Nav, and then deleting it... see what I mean? As far as removing it afterwards, I'll further suggest that the dealers just usually don't consider doing so... especially since the item #442 is labeled as "cupholders"... they would probably be cautious about removing an item labeled as that!!

So, thanks for the help. There you have it!!
