What does this squeak sound like?
I mean I hear squeaks and rattles when I go over rough road areas, very minor though. So am I just less sensative or do I not have the problem?

I had the seat squeak. Turned out to be the upholstery rubbing against something. The BMW tech apparently fixed it with some felt, but I never found out where it was happening.

The squeaking on my armrest started about 800 miles. The squeaking was driving me crazy, every time I rested my elbow, it squeaked! Spraying 1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium Interior Plastic Cleaner into the hinges (wiping up the excess and moving the armrest up and down) has worked so far, a couple of days. At least it's an easier fix than dealing with a BMW dealership to replace it (or whatever they would do, if anything). If the squeaking is abated for at least another 800 miles, then it'll be better than the original.

squeaky center armrest

i recently had the dealer fix the squeaky armrest, which was getting very annoying.
They disassembled it and lubricated the spring inside of the hinge.
Seems to have taken care of the squeak/rattle.

I had the seat squeak too. It was the seat belt receiver thing rubbing against the side of the seat over bumps. I realized today that the reason there is rubbing is because I had the seat adjusted all the way up (toward the sunroof). I lowered the seat down a bit and it's all gone. If I end up getting uncomfortable with the seat being a bit lower, I'm going to glue some felt on the inside of the seat belt receiver. Should do the trick.

Mine is also squeaking very loudly now whenever I rest my elbow on it. I will try the Einszett on it and report back.

Yep...there is a service bulletin at the dealer about our squeaky armrest. Just had mine taken apart and lub'd up a bit. The squeak is gone at the moment...however, now i am more focused on my brakes squeaking (even after they fixed those...worked for about 3 hrs)

guys, as I said above, just spray any type of sealant product you have or the rubber protectant type of products sold by BMW on the hinges and your problem will be gone for good.
I treated my armrest with a sealant I got from zaino months ago, not a whisper anymore.
give it a try,trust me.

I would agree; I used 1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium Interior Plastic Cleaner and so far the armrest is still quiet beyond the 800 miles when it started squeaking.

My brakes were squeaking something awful too. The dealer really stepped up and replaced both the rotors and pads the noise left and never came back (it's been about 3K miles so far).

I specifically told them the squeak goes away when I washed the wheels/brakes with the hose and then comes back, so them just cleaning them won't help long term.

I think I finally found the source of the squeaking. Take off the back cover of the armrest assembly. Pull from the bottom near the carpet. Drive around with it off for a few days. No felt bumpers, no nothing, and no squeaks.

Now I just need to experiment with insulating the back cover to prevent this coming back.

Sweet. I told them the same thing...when i wash and clean my wheels...no squeak. Just hate how i turn some many heads while breaking downtown. I tell myself they must be checking out my car!

Reading this and other posts I can conclude that BMW dropped quality since year one.

Possibly so, but I have an '08 with the same squeaks and creaks mentioned here. My dash also rattles occasionally.

The "BMW" armrest has been over engineered and squeaky on every BMW I have ever owned. This is nothing new to me.

I applied Einszett Cockpit liberally this morning to the hinge in the back of the armrest.. Will keep everyone posted as to the results.
