Davos->Stelvio->... (video added)
hi, from my hotel on the Austrian side of the StelvioPass (Timmelsjoch they call it here)
some (not all) pictures of today will make some more tomorrow vids is for the next week-end I'm afraid how did the car behave: well: the short chassis, the M3underpinnings and the torqy engine make it a real delight to drive it here, steering is fast/accurate (close to the Porsche) traction controle intervenes (?) to much, like the Porsches, but I'm on my very own, so don't want to risk anything!!! still got to improve braking/downshifting, got to much used to the Aeromaxes auto-box it is less stressfull compared with doing this with my Aeromax and more fun than with the Porsche (carrera4) which lacks torque pics: the first of the day: Fluela, I like the Fluela a lot, often some nice snow up there strange though, every time I'm in the mountains, the passes/roads seem shorter than I remeber (or do I go faster) the very fast Ofenpass, umbrail, one of my favorites!!! down the stelvio haven't decide which road to take tomorrow, over the Stelvio in to Bormio (fast downhill), then to Livigno (tax-free-fuel) then check the time back to Davos is fastest, over the SanBernardino etc. the most fun, we'll see how I feel when arriving in Livigno, got a tough week at the office from monday on Last edited by 1560; 09-28-2011 at 01:01 AM.. |

Nice road with some snow.
I was expecting some snow but there were no snow when I went there. My route was like this. The next day I went to Verzasca. |

I was also in Stevio two weeks ago. It was a nice weekend getaway. I prefer the Gross Glockner Pass though. Setvio had a lot of 1st gear and tight round about turns. Plus there was that GRAVEL section!!! lol
I hope to post my pics sometime this week. Dackel |

no doubt... that gravel section was a little harrowing... especially with a NEW car! Essentially.. if you come up the back side of the mountain.. you will come up to an area that is gravel... Keep going though .. to get to the top and see the picturesque side... If you manage to get to the top of Stelvio and don't encounter gravel.. then simply turn around and go back down the way you came.. because YOU DID IT RIGHT! |

That gravel section is on the Swiss(CH) side. I drove from the North (Austrian(A)) towards the Italian side. I drove thru Nauders (that old stone mountain fort) in Austria. I still had a blast though. Last edited by Dackelone; 09-25-2011 at 01:58 PM.. |

Nice BSM pics!
The one thing I will regret when I get mine in Dec(?) is not doing ED. My fiancé's family have a holiday place in Zell Am See and we hit the Glockner pass everytime we're there (and the road is not closed). I've flogged their A6 3.0 up and down that road but to have the 1M on that road ... Ah well ... guess I'll save the ED for that Tri-Turbo M3 in 5 to 6 years.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/4618683...7627631168877/ Austrian side of the Stelvio Bormio-side of the Stelvio Albula-pass the gravel road, mentioned a few posts above is not on the Stelvio, but on the Umbrail-pass, which ends on the road from Bormio to the Stelvio-summit, with bigger cars this "route" is preferable, there are hairpins, but fewer, my Porsche-buddy prefers this over the Stelvio (Austrian side) route: saturday http://maps.google.be/maps?saddr=Dav...ra=ls&t=m&z=11 sunday http://maps.google.be/maps?saddr=Gom...a=1,3&t=m&z=10 |

hmmmm.... most of the roads are really narrow which spoil the fun IMO.
I can recommend you e.g. Grimsel, Nuffenen and Susten. (all in Switzerland) Only tricky thing here is that you really have to take care you are not driving too fast. The fines are crazy. |

Nuffenen= imho best in that region Susten=got height-feever on that one Furka=up:fine, down (to Andermatt): to narrow that region is indeed nice, but more crowdy on sunny week-ends Simplon=hyperfast, D.Lovett had a client with an Enzo when I met them over there: finaly the ENZO could use that V12 SanBernardino: huge fun Timmelsjoch: fine for austria side, italy side narrow Izoard: BIG FUN, beautiful area Turini: THE most fun for me Bonette: very high ...
