New tail light seals - yes or no?
Just got back from our trip to Europe where I got a little present for myself - a set of genuine Blackline taillights. Gently used, in mint shape and for a killer price.
Everything looks new, date of manufacture is 2016. Should I get a brand new set of seals for those before I install them? It may take a while for the local dealer to bring them in... As a side note, if you are planning to bring a set of taillights in your carry-on bag, be prepared for some curious looks and major questioning at the airport security. They look pretty menacing on the x-ray screen, lol |

I would wait for new. Hate to find out you have a leak by a trunk full of water.

I know im probably to late to help you, but to help others:
Last year i bought a new set of LCI blacklines, installed them all was great. That was in winter so no water was getting in, because it was just ice and snow. Fast forward to the first wash of the year, and boom tail light full of water. Didn't want to spend the $600 CAD to buy another set so i left it in (also because stock 2008 tail lights aint that nice). Dealt with that for a little while and now i have no amp/no radio at al. Thats now another $900CAD new from BMW. I just ordered a new tail light as schmiedman now sells the blacklines individually, but this time i used the seals the tail light came with, but along all of the edges where the red plastic meets the black casing i filled in with an RTV sealant. I also once mounted to the car used the same sealant to fill in where the rubber meets the trunk. As of right now its still working so hopefully it works as a long term solution: will update if needed

Thanks for the heads-up!
I did end up ordering brand new seals and used them when installing the blacklines. Better safe than sorry, I guess. |
