Talk to BMW. A lot of the time they'll fugue it and comp the repair under a "goodwill" banner

I believe this is a known problem. Although not under warranty, they should fix it for free.

Check in with your dealer and see what can be worked out.

Definitely a known problem and I think the warranty for this was extended. Take it to or call the dealer.

Go to your dealer and ask to speak with a manager. Either they may be able to put in a goodwill request for you or you'll have to call BMW and consult them for it. If its the parking light (3 line led) that's gone out then yes. It's a known issue. The tail light has to be replaced.

Dealer will not repair it, I figured they would not

so any ideas on how to fix these ourselves? there's no corrosion it looks more like the led circuit is blown

That's strange, I'm well out of original warranty and they said there was a recall or TSB (My SA mentioned this) for the tail lights as they are known to fail. The day time runners in my driver side tails decided to PMS and stop running, after changing out the bulb, no results. I decided to take the entire assembly apart, turns out a few metal pieces on the bulb housing were not in proper contact to complete the circuit. Yes, I actually took apart the thing just because I didn't want to wait 2 weeks for a loaner once car is with the dealer.

Think about calling a few dealership's service departments in your area and asking if they'll replace it for free. If they're far away, maybe then can at least get you the part for free and you pay to ship it to your house. Maybe you just had a bad service department at the dealership you tried- maybe another place will take care of it.

there is an SIB (service information bullentin) on this issue. The reason for it is that seals on the Tail lamp emits a gas that causes damage to the electrical connectors on the LED's for the running lights. The service action stated that they should of been inspected and both seals replace, if non of the lights were out, but as for the warranty information, it only states that it is only covered under new vehicle warranty.

I have my replacements and I disassembled one of my broken tail lights

there is no corrosion at all, I figured that was a line of BS from BMW, it looks more like the circuit is blown

bmw should have done a recall on these tail lights and put the fixed circuit in every car, it is a safety issue

and whoever designed these should be fired, the circuit is probably a 5 $ part but it's molded in and not really fixable
