I'm sure I'm missing something here.
This is exactly why there is an investigation. To answer these questions

I laugh when I see the fear associated with diesel emissions.....

Gas exahsut can kill you with out a warning, diesel exhaust is more likely to make you sick first!

Just because it's visible carbon, doesn't = worst!

In Civil Law (Germany included) a prosecutor can open an investigation based on a complaint or even if it gets wind of some illegal activities. He is the pillar of the law that observes and makes sure that the law is applied.

Yeah, no!

The diesel performance industry has come a long way in a short time, and 2000hp trucks are Running clean as can be.....

Here's a 4.55 1/8 run in a converted Nova with a 6.7l Cummins that's been........ pretty much torn apart and built like Ryan(the owner/ builder/ tuner) would've made it from the factory 60 yes ago Lol.

One reason Germany takes so seriously any product cheating is that it seriously damages the "Made in Germany" brand. That brand is why Germany, a high cost, high wage country remains incomparably successful in manufactured goods export. The German brand floats the boats of ALL German exporters.

Made in Germany and Made in China are at opposite ends of the manufacturing business model. German goods are overpriced until you factor in their consistent quality — both conceived quality and real quality.
