All you need to do to come to a rational conclusion is compare horsepower between the two vehicles?? You'd have to buy the top of the line JCW's mini to even come close and I believe you would still be lacking 100 hp ....

why not bump up to a used e9x m3? They have proven to be pretty solid and reliable cars and there are in the low $40's for 08 and 09s.

I don't understand why anyone likes or buys mini's, they're ugly, and i laugh at most males that drive them. I don't care how they drive, if a cars completely horrid looking i won't buy it. for all those i just offended, its just my opinion.

I'm buying a 135 very soon and wanted your guy's opinion.
first choice: 2011 blue/black M-Sport $33,888 17,500 miles second choice: 2009 black/red Premium Pack, navi, heated seats $30,888 16,500 miles Is the twin scroll turbo more economical and reliable? I know you can tune the twin turbo to more horsepower, but I'm not really looking to chip it- just CAI, exhaust, and cosmetic changes. |

Up until a few weeks ago, I was deciding between a used R56 Mini Cooper S, or a used 08 135i. I was actually trying to purchase a MCS, because I already own a 335i, but in the end, I still opted for the 135i.
- In terms of resale value, the MCS is unbelievably high. I was very surprised. - Both cars have their share of issues, so one is not more reliable than the other. - MCS is a great FWD car. On track, a modified MCS w/ LSD can out corner my 335i any day. The fact it's FWD is no negative. - 135i the 08 model has the N54 engine we all know and love. - If you're into RWD dynamics, the 135i is the way to go. Despite being impressed with the MCS FWD, I still prefer the cornering dynamics of a RWD when at the limit. - As others mentioned, a lot of people purchase the MCS because of the styling. In that respect, I prefer it over the 135i. - For me, the 135i styling was a negative because I already own a 335i. Before I bought it, I already knew I was going to get the 'you bought the same car' remarks In the end, for a few $K more on the used market, I was able to purchase a 135i. Since I love the N54 engine, and understand the problems of owning it, I opted for the 135i. Because of the high resale value of the MCS, I thought the used 135i was a better bargain.

I still love my '08 135i but I do have the itch for something new. However, as others have said, if you already have the N54/55 is it worth the upgrade? Are 2013 models that much better than 2008s? Now if I had a 2008 GT-R I'd be feeling inadequate right now.

I have never driven a Mini, but did used to own a Focus SVT, which battled the Mini in several car mag road tests years ago. I'm sure the Mini is a blast to drive, but to me the front wheel drive is a concession I would not make if given the option of a 135. I'm biased though as I'm taking delivery of a new 2013 135i in the next week or two:-)

Yeah I don't get it, why trade for the same car? Much cheaper to keep driving it and pay for repairs then to drop a ton of cash to get a warranty that you may or may not have to use. Half the purchase price of the car is the cost of the warranty for a little piece of mind

HECK YES I'd buy another 135i. However I REALLY like my car and I don't see me trading anytime soon. Only thing is that I need to make it more "unique". Too many similar to mine around here. :-)

Its really hard to compare a 135 to any other car, there virtually isnt another in its class, sure some are simular, almost comparable but none that it really competes with. With that being said, either you want a 135 or you dont. Im on my third, each time Ive looked at other options, each time I ended up with a 135. The 1 series has so many different choices within itself too, 128, 135, 135 M sport, M135, 135is and the 1 series M, all but the 135i and 135 Msport have differnt tunings or as with the 128 engines. All 3 of my 135i have been different including my latest in which the dealer wasnt sure what to call it, its not a 135 Msport, or 135, def not an M but it came stock with 320 hp and more M badging then my M sport including an M badge on rear but not before the 135 like the M135,,,any ideas???

Agreed.
Frank. You own a convertible now - no need to rag on em. To the OP - I nearly traded my 135 on a 1M, wouldve if I couldve gotten an allocation. So I got an ActiveE instead, so I guess i replaced my DD 1er with another DD 1er... But twos enough for me. Theyre very good cars, but the prices keep going up. If I was to buy a 2013 car equivalent to mine in every way id be spending somewhere near 5 grand more than I did in 2008. No thanks. I like the idea of small car payments for a while. So its ActiveE out in a year and hello Fiesta ST DD. |

I don't think I would buy another 135i, nor do I think I'll be getting rid of this one anytime soon. For me a car like this is a toy, consequently I'm putting the time and money in to it to make it the fastest and best handling car I've had to date. Given this, what would be the point of me starting all over again? As of now mine is paid for and I have no dealer warranty to worry about. I've done tons of homework on the mechanical workings of it and become fairly confident I can do most the wrenching (and coding) myself. Turbo reliability? Not worried about it, almost look forward to the day they start giving me problems and I'll trade them out for RBs. Injectors? I've already updated and coded the remaining recall ones to the latest...no big deal. HPFP? I have the latest but should I have an issue I think they're about $300....no biggie. Consequently I plan on hanging on to it for a while...however...if I got a chance to get a 1M....I'd talking the wife in to trading in her car....

I wouldn't buy ANOTHER 135i only because I LOVE my 2010 and can't justify parting with it. If I had it to do over again, would I buy it again? Damn right I would!

I bought my first one pretty much stock in 2008. since then I upgraded to a fully loaded used 2008 with low miles. Now I am upgrading to a 2013 with euro delivery. I'm going to lease this one, my first time doing so. Delivery is the first week of April! So yea, I would buy it again. And again.
