2 Clutch LSD with 3.64 finally installed.
I got the work done at Turner Motorsports and they source the diff from Diffsonline who have a ton of different options. I want everything to mesh so I took it easy on the ride back from Amesbury to Boston...but so far so good. The car feels much better on off ramps and even with the DSC on- it didn't act up/engage where it normally does....
the 3.64 gears are really nice. the car feels like it accelerates so much better and the gearing feels much better suited to american roads and highway speeds. i would not have like this final drive in my old e46 5 speed but with a six speed it is pretty perfect. anyway- it cost me $1800 plus $300 labor- i also can not compliment Marco and the service team at Turner high enough. They were professional and kind in every way. Thanks for reading... |

IMO an LSD is essential with any RWD enthusiast car that is capable of spinning up its rear tires under power. (Pretty much covers them all - including Miatas)
It's a pity BMW doesn't offer them across the board on all Sport Package equipped RWD models. They'd make some money… and we'd save money and time compared to having LSD's installed in the aftermarket. |

Solid upgrade. LSD should be a standard item in any car.

Glad to see someone go with Diffsonline. I'll likely be going this route of Jim at Performance Gearing.
What made you go 2 Clutch vs 3 Clutch or any other offering? |

Diffsonline is a good company that has been around for a bit.

i like the on/off feel of them and the price was right. the advice i got from the folks at diffsonline and turner pushed me that way too....i like it a lot. again- i will track the car a bit for fun- but the goal here is the best all around lightweight bmw coupe N/A 6 car i can build with an emphasis on driving!

i like how the revs drop with the lower gearing too....it definitely makes the car feel sportier and the two clutch LSD makes the thing feel like a race car when you're cornering or accelerating out of a corner....it's sweet.

What is the RPM in 6th at 60, 70, and 80 MPH?
3.64 is like a 13-15% jump from 3.23 so I am curious how did the daily driving change. I like to drive at ~115 kmh, which is at like 2.5 rpm for best fuel econ, would be interesting for the changes

I can see why the lower gearing would be a lot more fun but i have the same thoughts as andrey. I think my mileage would drop like a brick when cruisoing at 70-80mph. at 80 the rpm are at about 2900 or so.

i will check next time i am on a highway and report back. my experience was different than what you may experience- i found that for highway cruising i previously almost never used sixth....and usually kept it in fifth. i drive with traffic because if i don't i inevitably have the bad luck to get pulled over- so i'm rarely going over 80.
that being said- i do not do a ton of highway miles and did not buy the car with any interest in what kind of mileage it gets. i can tell you that for american roads and american speeds on american highways i think the car is where it needs to be now in terms of final gearing. |

It's also frequently not realistically faster as you spend as much extra time shifting as you do getting their more quickly, ie 60mph is now a 3 shift affair.

My Z4M is useful to about 10mph until you need to shift into 2nd, the gears are almost too short in OEM form |

It's not all about the 0-60 times. It's mostly about the rev drops during downshifts and effectively making the transmission more tightly spaced. I do think on our cars 0-60 is still a 2nd gear affair- but 0-60 is as arbitrary as any thing really.... I like it and I think it makes the car feel more sporting. To me- we don't have autobahns here and I didn't get my 128i to be a highway cruiser. I totally respect you guys' opinions though on what works for you.

Recent n52 e90 post thread and my effort has identified a potential finned diff cover for us.
We have a typ188L cover and maybe even open diff. Typ188k is e46/e86/e89. And typ188 is e30. Maybe others It's from e46 and will need some retro on left side http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/33117512980/ES56041/ Another candidate, a blast from the past & actually possible to modify with a solid bushing. E30 m diff cover http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-10...30-m3-325.aspx Looks like birds and Quaife finally have shown photo of e8x finned diff http://www.schmiedmann.co.uk/en/prod...product=QUAFDC

@Stig
Do you plan on changing the gearing with your LSD like @Dogewar I recall you had no plans to do that
