when to look for financing?

So I placed an order for a 330i on 4/15/06.
Based in info from this forum, the car will likely arrive in June or earlier.
BMWFS rate is too high. When should I start applying for credit
elsewhere?
Do credit unions lock the rate when you apply? and if so for how long?

Anyone done this? I searched but did not find this kind of information.

Thanks

I also placed my order for my 330 on 4/15, my dealer is saying "58 days", which puts delivery in early June. Also, I have not received my build number, how long does that usually take to receive? I just want to see some sort of progress...

I got financing lined up before I ordered the car. My CU locked my rate for 30 days as well.

Call your dealer. They have the production number.
ask them for a printout of the order.
it will list your options and the production number.
call the 1 800 number and use the production number to check status.

My status is still "scheduled for production with no confirmed production date".

Call your CA, I can't believe that your car doesn't have a production number yet. For an early June west coast arrival, the car would need to be produced the 1st week of May. It takes the minimum of 26-days to cross the pond, go through the PC and back-up the Pacific into PH.

Banks post new rates on the 1st day of each month, whether or not it's higher or lower is all up to luck. I'd shop for financing about two weeks before you're supposed to take delivery.

This regional thing drives me nuts!! I had to go at 6.2%. I have perfect credit, but the dealer in Colorado didn't have special rates from BMW available....boo!
