GIAC done yesterday

At last I am booked in for the S2 S/W with flashloader. With the BMW performance pack and some other mods I am getting 341BHP at the flywheel.....anyone want to hazard a gues at what I could expect with GIAC S2 ? (my mods are listed in Signature)

You will notice a *HUGE* difference with the GIAC Stage 2. It is ridiculously and effortlessly torquey and smooth.

Please note that you need either high flow catted or catless downpipes with Stage 2 to prevent excessive EGTs. I don't see them in your signature.

what are EGT's ? and why is it bad ?

I have not been recommended them with the map ad they do sell them as I was offered them as another additional tuning part if I wanted them....not that I Needed them ???

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperatures. Too high of EGT and you'll burn out normal Cats

You absolutely *NEED* high flow race cats or catless downpipes to run Stage 2. The exhaust gas temps can get dangerously high without the free flow. Cat and turbo failure can result.

GIAC stage 1 is OK with the OEM downpipes. Stage 2 is a no-no. The dealers aren't even supposed to flash your car to Stage 2 unless you have the upgraded pipes.

BTW for reference:

Red = stock
Dark Blue = GIAC stage 1 tune only
Pink = GIAC stage 1 + AMS FMIC
Light Blue = GIAC stage 1 + AMS FMIC + downpipes

And I'm dynoing the GIAC stage 2 + AMS FMIC + downpipes on Saturday.

I spoke to the Mapping Co on Friday eve and they confirmed there is a version of the map without Dp's fitted but I will loose around 10BHP using stock DP's and not uprated, "catted" DP's. So looking at what you posted above that the "pink" one ....I guess I will see arounf 380 - 390 at the fly then

If I were you I'd call GIAC directly. AFAIK, there is only Stage 1 (does not require DPs) and Stage 2 (requires DPs), and there's a lot more difference between the two programs than 10hp.

Had my GIAC done yesterday after getting a Quaife fitted in the morning.
My Before Dyno was 346BHP & 370ft lbs.........I have to go back on Saturday for my Afer dyno to allow the ECU to adapt etc. I can tell straight away it is much more agressive...the only word I can think to describe it is "Brutal" 2nd gear pulls like 1st ! The map was written for my car by GIAC on the day so I had to hang around for a few hours for it to be done. It took into account all my Mods and that I did not have DP's. On Saturday they will be checking boost levels etc to ensure they are happy that all is safe. It is a slightly detuned map due to lack of DP's but I am extreamly pleased with it and it is better than I expected. I am guessing I have around 380 - 390 BHP and 400 to 410 ft lbs by the feel of it, but will post actual No's when it has been dyno'd.

They need to make adjustments for the DME configuration of various cars - that's where the "custom" part comes in. I think your dealer is probably blowing smoke up your a$$ about being tuned while you wait.

You probably got Stage 1. As long as your happy though...

As I have the BMW performance software they did not have a tune for it and they were spoke to the guy doing the SW @ Giac in the US a few times during the SW being written. This included comfirming what mods I had and the map was written with all that considered. They did say I would not get quite the same map as one with DP's and as such the power would be less but I woul still get a decent increase over my current figures (346 BHP & 370 ft lbs) and driving it I can feel a very big difference and would hazzard a guess at it being around 385 BHP & 410 ft lbs.....but tomomorrow I will know for sure as they are doing the "after" dyno then and checking boost levels etc. My "Stock" map is the BMW performance SW too.

Yeah, I get it. When I was getting my GIAC software installed there was discussion back and forth with GIAC while the software was being written as well. This is in relation to DME software version, etc.

I can promise you that GIAC is not some hack tuner who writes software over the phone, nor do you want such software. They're not going to listen to your mod list and custom tune the car that way.

If they asked about your mods it was to determine if you should get Stage 1 or Stage 2.

Like I said, if you're happy, that's what counts. I don't doubt you'll see a substantial bump on the dyno. However, this thread is entitled GIAC S2, so I'm just keepin' it real...

Good dyno results. It's definitely stage 1 at 11.X pounds of boost tho.
