The "good" of these forums (the tips, the info, the sharing of common problems, the sharing of our cars, etc) still far outweight the "bad" (the bickering, the repeitition, the endless "mine is better").

I'd have to agree, the 1-series is pretty rare. Given a 3-series is only a bit more, most would opt in for the larger car. However, here in CA, the 1-series is pretty common. OP, make a trip down to SoCal and you can enjoy all the different 1-ers around here

There are a lot of BMW 128 and 328 owners who don't know what a sport package is and have no clue how fast their car goes from 0-60. There are lots of people who have 128s who have never bothered to go 0-60 in under 12 seconds much less try for 6. For these people 'M' is just another letter of the alphabet, and maybe more like 90% of BMW owners are in this category.

That's also why nearly every 128 I have seen has NO paddles NO MT and NO nice seats.

People who choose the 35s for a reason other than its 'status' likely are more performance oriented and more likely to want to interact with their vehicle on many levels.


At my work, there are 5 other BMW drivers. To a car, mine is the only one in the lot that shows any attention whatsoever. The other 4 (one is a 2004-5 335i) are dirty, have panel and paint damage, and are in need of a vacuuming/decrusting.

Sad to say, but to an overwhelming majority of consumers, our 'engineering marvel' is just another car. A nice one, but just another car. Yes, I agree, that's clueless. But not derogatory.

People who are 'clueless' in this context can be identified by the amount of sheer neglect they bestow on their cars. I don't know about you, but if a cat walks on my car overnight, it gets cleaned off before I leave the driveway. I take care of my BMW like I have never taken care of a car before. There are Yaris forums out there (used to have one; been there) and to them, we are clueless with our gas-sucking pigs and expensive maintenance.

To each their own, I guess, but when I'm in the market for a 'used' 135 someday, I'm gonna generally want to hunt down the one owned by the clueless guy who never modded it or pushed it too hard before the one that has been owned by an enthusiast who may or may not have done the mods properly and who has possibly pushed the car beyond its design limits (especially during break-in).

I absolutely agree, the same way I purchased my car; I had to know everything about the previous owner to make sure it was well maintained and so on.
My question was more in reference that some people seem to be able to pick out a clueless driver, just by passing him on the street, that's all

I now see 1 or 2 every day though most of those are 128is with clueless drivers

1ers were rare out here, now I'm seeing more of them but still far from a common sight, and I like it that way. But 3s? As ubiquitous as Hondas. There are at 2-3 of them on every half floor of our condo's parking garage. It's nice being the only 1er in our garage. Or at least it was. A space grey 128i moved in just recently. Next time I see em I'm gonna tell em there ain't room in this here garage for the both of us.

There are a ton of 1 series BMW's in south Flroida. The time of day you were driving and the area you were in probably was not a good demonstration for that. Its an unassuming little car. IMHO a total sleeper. I have always liked those kind of vehicles. Same goes for my other car, a '95 Impala SS. The SS's are not too shabby, for back in their time. deff not a race car and deff not the quickest car on the road. When you say you beat a CRX primered up you probably raced a kid in his first car that just like all of us had to start somewhere. The stock cars dont have much power and are pretty slow. I would love to see the look on your face when a K20 swapped CRX destroys you in their primered car. lmao. Ive seen a K20 swapped CRX with nothing other than slicks and ntrous hit the 10's all day, all motor in the 12's, and well into the low 9's with forded induction all for under 10k. the one series isnt a "sleeper", a swapped light wieght CRX with 800 WHP is a sleeper. ESPECIALLY in south Florida. Next time you are back home PM me and Ill arange for you to admire their taill lights. lol

Yes, that is absolutely what I mean. Like I said, I was in high school. In rural Virginia, and in the prime of the rice boy era. Im sure you remember that. When everyone put a 5 inch fart can on their civic, bolted on some POS spoiler, put on a cold air intake, and suddenly they were Fast and the Furious, with the ego and mentality to match. We all had to start somewhere yes, but you wouldn't find me revving at people in my *1994 Saturn with 250k miles* or even my (actually nice) 79 El Camino. I knew my place.

Thats ok, cause I dont race cars, I race bikes. On a track. Where people are supposed to race.

When *I* say sleeper I mean that 98% of the general populace has no idea how fast they actually are. Are they the fastest thing on the street? Absolutely not. You just proved that to me with your story about your friends primer Xr27-foxtrot swapped motor.

Im assuming that you and your buddies would fall into that 2% that actually knows how fast it is, *and* what is faster.

I drive cross country between ND and La on a monthly basis and before then drove between Pittsburgh and La. I rarely see any modded cars much less any 135's.

In San Diego I don't recall seeing any E82's other than one 128i in Ralph's but the E92 is damn popular, 328i's all over and a few 335i's also. Pattern with those seems to be all mid-20's and mid-30's guys, usually a mid-20's guy driving a modded 335i.

I think the 1-Series is regarded as more of a girly/tame car, I think that's unfair though but it's true if you look at the drivers. Here in the UK it's hot girls or 'older' () people driving the E82 (118i, 120i, 120d) and our hatchback versions (E81) have a reputation of being loan or company cars and are almost always a 120d. The 135i over here is VERY rare, there aren't many on the road at all and no-one know what one is, I've seen one other apart from mine on the road since they were first released in 2008 and that was a young guy who had modded it. I do sometimes miss the prestige of my 335i, the size of it better repuation but then all I have to do is hop in my 135i and drive and I don't think about it again (goes faster, handles better, stops better).

I'm 25 by the way.
