Just got the letter and my car is affected.

Any recommendations on which dealership to go to in Sydney? I've only had the car for a couple of months, and never dealt with any of the dealers before.

Which of them has the lowest number of first year apprentices?

I was just advised that my car is NOT subject to the re-call based on my VIN # by my SA at Brisbane BMW , i Thought this was all 135 built between 2007 and 2011 ? My car is a 09 build delivered in 2010??

How can i be certain the SA is correct , is there a BMW Australia service phone number or contact ?

Not every car has the fault.

I received a letter in the mail from BMW Aus. asking me to take my car to any dealership for the fix.

I'd say if you did not get the letter and you want to make absolutely sure, call BMW Aus. Customer Service line and have your VIN ready. They should be able to check if your car is on the list or not.

Just got off the phone with BMW Aus. Looks like my 09 doesn't need the recall. Hmmm...

Was it in for service at the same time?

I was told they were not touching anything other than replacing the battery cable.

Just oil change and the battery cable.

I didn't think that they would reset everything. But it's all gone. Alpina TCU flash, digital speedo, disclaimer screen, spark plug service on CBS screen and etc

I wouldn't be happy
Would we have any recourse in a situation like this? If it's out of warranty perhaps you can demand that the dealer reinstate the coding since they have the ability to do that anyway, although, I doubt you would be able to do the same for the Alpina flash.

Just booked my March '09 in to Perth for the end of June. They said they can only do 10 a day because BMW Australia only gave them one tool.

I'd hate to know how many they have to do all up.. at each dealer.

After 6.5 years of ownership i got sent a recall letter for the battery cable.

Took it in to get it done and just noticed today im missing a cap off the wiper shield area. I didnt even think they needed to go under the bonnet to complete this recall as it was all fuse/glove box related.

Check my dash cam footage and they definitely did some work under the bonnet but cant tell exactly what was done.

Called them and they said they didnt work under bonnet until i mentioned the footage, then they have asked me to bring it in.

Anyone else had this recall done aware if they removed the microfilter assembly etc.?. Im 99% sure there was a cap there before, covering the strut brace bolt, like in this pic.

The cover you are referring to covers the central bolt for the strut brace. It does not need to be disturbed during this repair but for spark plug services its removal is required on some engines.

If you had your battery cable recall done recently, most dealerships are doing complimentary quick vehicle checks in conjunction with any campaign work. So if your car went in just for the recall, it will most likely have had this bonus service. BMW pays the dealership about 10mins to do a quick checkover of the car. If your car went in for the recall and an oil service for example, you wont get the bonus VC.

In order to claim the recall repair cost from BMW, BMW requires proof of the car's visit so the car is scanned via the diagnostics system (ISTA) to clear any faults and generate a printout as this proof. Occasionally, the FRM may die during the power interruption that is required to carry out the recall (battery must be disconnected).

Regarding loss of custom coding and non standard transmission software after this recall, it is highly unlikely. Otherwise all your settings would revert to stock each time the battery is changed for example.

What may have happened is the FRM died during power interruption and it was either revived with a full reprogram of the car or the module had to be replaced, also require full reprogramming.

Hope this helps.

Ok yes thanks for that, it is the strut brace bolt cover im missing. Unlikely that would have touched that so it may have fallen off, seems unlikely though...

Found the part number for the cover too, 51717169481.
