M Sport Package Confusion

I ordered the M Sport Package for my 128i and assumed the M sports leather steering wheel with paddles came with it because the website automatically selects it when you choose the M Sport Package. Now I'm reading it's an option and only comes with the M Sport wheel as standard. Am I reading that right?

BMW website says my vehicle is in the "production begins" phase. Is it too late to update my order? Can't call my dealer until the morning.

Wouldn't the paddles have something to do with which transmission you're getting?

In the 3 Series there's a difference between Auto and Steptronic (with paddles)...

Not sure if that's the case with the 128 or not? (135 gets manual or DCT - which is what I have).

It's Steptronic with the 128i

Pretty sure if it's Steptronic then it's gonna have paddles but I don't know for sure...

Maybe that's why they're "Optional" under the M-Sport section - because you have to option the Auto transmission to get the paddles?

If you order an M Sport 128 with automatic, it comes with the M Sport steering wheel and paddle shifters.

All 128i autos are Steptronic, as that's the name BMW gives to all its modern slushbox automatics. The steering wheel paddle shifters are in addition to the transmission and are a standalone option when the Sport package is selected and an included option when the M Sport package is selected.

Is the GM built auto still called Steptronic? I always thought the 135i was Step, and the 128i was just called 'auto'.

All BMW automatics with the "+/-" manual mode have been known by the Steptronic moniker, as it refers to a function of the transmission rather than the specific transmission. The exceptions are the SMG and DCT automatics. BMW uses the name Steptronic in the same manner that Porsche, Audi, and VW use Tiptronic; i.e., it denotes a specific function rather than a specific transmission.

Thanks for the insight. It's a shame though, the ZF unit runs circles around the GM one. No wonder everyone hates the Step. They probably assume it's like the ones we get in our service loaners. No offense to the OP! Still not too late to change your order.
