Another 'Extra cupholder thread'

Was at the dealer today looking at a 1er. It had the extra removeable cupholder, which to date I haven't really liked too much. But trying to see the bright side, it occured to me that BMW or an aftermarket parts producer could make other accessories to fit in that slot. It would be a great place for a holder made specifically for a Garmin or Tom Tom nav system (for non-Navi cars).

They could also make a battery powered reading light for the passenger. Or a holder for a radar detector (are those legal anywhere anymore???). Or a change holder...

Any other ideas? Not a get-rich-quit idea, but since the slot is there, may as well optimise its utility.

it is not bad, I use it as a cup holder and use the ones under the arm rest to hold house keys and randoms.

it looks sleek to be honest. yeah, it's plastic, so?

it does get in the way of the passenger though.

but I don't care.

I also got it with my 'base' 135i sport package, leatherette, 6MT. Took me about 20 seconds to figure out how to take it out of the slot.....than another 10 seconds to put it in the trunk (right recessed storage area). Have not thought about it since then.

Though I like the idea of a Garmin holder - that would be hot. Hate those things on the windshield. Ipod holder +1. Someone's got to get that going.

not enough cars sold with that style cuphoder. only 20% of cars have em, and only 10% of those people would likely buy a product. too much research and development/ manufacturing to turn a profit. therefore, no go...

cool idea though. I wish more companies would have docks to hold many different adapters!

I'm using my cupholder for my nav already. It's not quite elegant yet, but it is certainly very easy to plop the modified cupholder in. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Thank you! I recall suggesting a pic of that application very soon after your post! I'll look forward to seeing them.

Maybe a holder for a 7" DVD player for road trips.

I thought about that. And then I thought about it again. Can't see watching a DVD while driving being a good thing.

I was at the dealer today, every demo has them in, quite "deceptive" in my view. I like them, and would be keen to have it in my car. But I won't!!
