Exclamation Nürburgring repaving & ticket prices going Up!...

The 'Ring management is taking advantage of the mild winter we are having in Germany at the moment by repaving certain sections of the track. Namely sections "Quiddelbacher Höhe" and "Flugplatz". I thought I'd share these photos...

On a side note... it was also announced that Lap prices will be going up from 27 to 29 Euros next year. Season unlimited passes go from 1650 euros up to 1900 euros. a difference of 250 euros. You can still buy the old priced season passes until the end of this month.

Repaving in "Quiddelbacher Höhe" and "Flugplatz" areas...

If there is one thing the Germans know how to do, is make nice roads. I'm sure the track will be as smooth as butter when they're done with it!

I wonder if it being really smooth makes it a better or worse place for developing new cars.

One lap price is still pretty reasonable when considering where you are and the length of the lap.

Its's probably better with the old bad pavement bc its more challenging and harder on the test cars. But, the smoother track surface will be better for the public "tourist days", bc there will be less accidents and more revenue for the track owners since they won't have to close down the track and clean up an accident for a few hours while everyone waits.

One lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife is 20.8 km (12.9 miles)! It has been said that that one lap of 21 kms is equal to some 220 kms of German roads.

Btw... the first time I drove the 'Ring back in 1991, one lap only cost DM5! That's about two and half euros in today's money! It was also more charming bc you had to know the secret way into the track and you paid an old man in cash.

Very cool.... some day I hope to get there to experience.

Locally, our famous Watkins Glen got a full repave, complete with new concrete pit and rumple strips. They went all the way down to the bedrock as well, and finished the top coat in dec giving it all winter and half of spring to cure. Should be a riot, they took meticulous care to maintain the contours from what I have read.

It's a roller coaster you'll love it. There's always plenty
Ontario license plates present! For a more scenic (and really no longer) drive once you cross the boarder take the 90 to the Geneva exit, which takes you along the lake through wine country to get to WG. It's a great drive.

So now manufacturer ring times can't be compared to early times. The new surface surely has to be worth some time.
