Got a ticket for no front plate......

....while the car was parked in a parking garage! Wtf! Can they do this?! The ticket doesn't say Chicago Police Department on it anywhere. It just says "City of Chicago Department of Revenue." Bastards. It's a $50 ticket and the car next to me had 2 tickets on the window...i looked at their ticket and one said "blocking driveway or fire lane" which they werent, they were in a parking garage, and the other one didnt have a reason. My car was parked against the wall. So he had to get out of his car (or whatever he was driving/riding and walk to the front of my car just to look for no front plate).

What pisses me off the most is sometimes there are people who park in this garage that block the exit to go down, so you have to go all the way to the roof in order to go towards the exit because all the exits on the floors are blocked by assholes. I never see tickets on their cars! Should I fight it, or just say fuck it and pay it?

Over here in Germany... a ticket for no front plate also comes with 1 point on your drivers license! Even from the MP's on base... 1point!!

yeah, because they wouldnt be able to give you tickets, i have yet to be pulled over here, but have half a dozen tickets from cameras.

I guess fighting it is pointless cuz i have no front plate. It's just annoying that I got it while it was parked in a garage

Seriously in a parking garage? Isn't that considered private property? Sounds like a revenue scam to me. I would put a plate on it and fight the ticket claiming that it had it the whole time. Bastards!!

That's all any ticket is, revenue. at least they aren't trying to bullshit you. You knew you were supposed to have a front plate, and decided not to. I'm not knocking you for that, but to try to weasel out of the ticket? I have no respect for that.

That's what I'm thinking. Because i thought a parking garage was private property too. Maybe i'll talk to the garage people.

I'm going to pay it because I was wrong for not having it. But it just seems fishy, especially cuz the guy next to me had one that said he was blocking a fire lane/driveway, you know

I don't understand how they can issue you a ticket if you were not driving. What if you were inside buying a front plate bracket? Kind of like sitting behind the wheel while being hammered vs driving while intoxicated. The vehicle is not being *operated* without the front plate so I don't see how it's illegal.

Pretty sure you have to be moving or operating the car for a them to give you a ticket for no front plate.

End of the month just had a few more cars to hit quota. A parking garage is like free pickings.

German front plates USED to have a smog decall. Not anymore. Not since a few years now (Sept.2009).

OH man i never thought id see a thread like this but it makes me happy. since i got my one like a year ago ive had maybe 4 no front plate tickets. i bought my car in the states it doesnt come with holes in the bumper or a front plate mount. I havent paid one ticket. all you do is eventually put it on your car. personally i went with the tow hook plate mount and no issues since

Nope, cops usually don't even give these tickets. City of Chicago pays people to walk around and ticket parked cars. You just gotta pay it. I'm on 7 in the past 12 months, parked everytime. Price you pay for not having a front plate, still worth it IMO.

Do you have a front plate? Just go buy some 3M tape and stick it on there then you could fight the ticket. It's crazy how people who do stupid things all the time never get any tickets huh? I can't stand it either.

I've never had a front plate on my GTO nor my 135i and you're required to have one in WA. But then again....I always stick it on the dash against the windshield so it IS visible from the require 50 ft minimal. Does Chicago have a law like that?
