intake valves cleaned

decided that it was time to get my intake valves cleaned as the car as been feeling a little doughy, got motorline in brisbane to do the work and i think they did a great job, there walnut blaster was broken so they had to clean them all by hand. a little about the car its done 135000ks (i love to drive it ).however a lot of those ks are on the freeway and not many short trips. results.car feels a lot smoother and very responsive.hard to explain but comparing it to before it felt like it had lag under light acceleration, but now you only have to touch it and it goes

That's a big difference!

Do you mind sharing how much it cost you and how long they had the car? I would like to do this too.

Also, how did you get photos? Did they take them for you?

hey guys
the service manager did me a good price(i think) the normal charge is $895 plus gaskets.
but he did it for $695 including gaskets and also changed my spark plugs for just the cost of the parts as they were in there any way.if you are intersested speak to declan the service manager he as a 135 as well and told me he would do the same deal for any other 1addicits you may even get it cheaper if there is a group.
with the photos i left them my camera with instructions of no photos no payment.
they did say if the valves looked fine they would just charge for their time to strip and rebuild
they had the car all day and i spoke to the tech who did the job it took about 4-5 hours of cleaning plus strip down and rebuild

$700 isn't too bad at all. I think $500 or under would be a great deal. Maybe we can get a few people together? Is your service manage on this forum...?

Given the fact that Doncaster BMW wanted $485 to replace my coils (labour only) I think this is a great price.

Probably not worth me doing at only 24,000km. If I was near 100K I'd jump on this.

Yep I would think yours would be fine, however from what I understand it's more to do with your driving habits ,as in if you do a lot of short trips without the engine getting nice and hot. If so maybe worth putting an endoscope in the inlet and having a look first

A general question: with direct-injection turbo-charged motors becoming mainstream (e.g., the new Falcon, new Mazdas etc) is this phenomenon likely to be more common, especially as short trips describe most of the motoring that people do?

Is this seen in indirect fuel injection motors?

even I can do that in the carport, makes me want to troll the local stealership and ask them how much and how long the job takes.

I was a little more blunt than laughter. I have done the plugs myself so I know what needs to be done, but was short of time. They were going to do it for $180, but phoned me up just beforehand to tell me that was the quote to do one, not six!!!

My 24k over 3+ years is made up of; many short trips, monthly 100km+ hwy trips & ~two track days a year. I'm unsure which is good or bad for carbon build up? Short trips are bad for nearly everything else.

I've got a scope but I'm not sure what I'd need to remove to get the valves. Throttle body at least? I had much apart on the weekend when I fitted CP, DVs & OCC. Should have had a look then.

Apparently driving the car at high rpm's for extended periods of time on a regular basis is a good thing as it helps burn a lot of it off. From what I've seen in photos, regular maintenance and cleaning is the only way though.
