Well, I think I just joined the water pump club!
Left work a few minutes early to beat Friday night rush hour traffic in Tampa to drive 2 hours across the state, and got the dreaded amber overheat icon, followed shortly by the red icon and limp mode. Traffic was like 10mph on I-4 anyway so I was able to get across to a wide shoulder area fortunately. Called BMW Assist and a flatbed took it to Reeves BMW. I'm at 60,100 miles on a 2012 135i. I struggled whether or not to buy the BMW extended warranty, but did so about 18 months ago just for this very failure after reading about all the WP faults on this forum. So I'm sorta relieved to get some money back on it. Between this, a blown charge pipe, and a cracked coolant reservoir, I figure it paid for itself by now.
I got a 2017 330i loaner with 400 miles on it. Nice car but the motor sucks... |

Waiting on mine to go. 2012 @ 55k miles.
My CPO warranty more than paid for itself when I had to have the entire transmission replaced (MT). I shudder to think what that would have cost out-of-warranty. If my WP hasn't failed a few months short of my CPO expiring, I will see if the dealership will do it for good will (they're actually a very friendly dealership and good about such things).

Just called the dealer. They said the wiper motor is out and needs replacement. The stupid part is that he says "We're not sure it was working when it came in for service since we haven't had any rain lately". I told him I can assure you that it worked because I use them almost daily to keep the windshield clean. I am certain that they screwed something up when they pulled all the hardware off to replace the oil filter housing gasket, I just don't know what.

Last week, my 135i radiator fan was running high after 14 miles drive to home. I scan the code today using Carly app and found 2 fault codes. Does it means my water pump is dead/dying? I didn't get any check engine light or into limp mode. My car is 2011 N55 and has 57k miles on the clock.

This is sounding more and more like the HPFP debacle. Wonder how many people are getting failures of their water pump compared to the HPFP.
This worries me a little as my car is getting up there in mileage where I'm seeing these fuel pump issues. I have a long trip coming in May that I would rather not be stranded because of this thing. |

WP will fail without warning.
Honestly, I wonder if it's related to OFHG issues and coolant contamination.

Fuel tank replaced due to ethanol attacking the plastic material Clutch master failure Rignt front (or left can't remember now) LED failure in the turn signal Immobilzer antenna failure Horizontal cylinder head gasket failure Moisture issue with front headlights None of the above has left me stranded. Even with the clutch master failing, I was able to nurse my bike home through thick traffic. We shouldn't be expected to play Russian Roulette every time we drive our cars. |
