I am not aware of any 128i bashing. The turbo is really an overkill for neighborhood streets.

i guess i took the wrong impression when some people talk about the 128! sry guys thinks for clearing that up! i know that this is a sports car (i think), but the reason why i bring up me and my girlfriend is for our future! i dont really want to sell the 1 just cuse the car seat wont fit! honestly i think the e92 is huge especially compaired to my e30! that is one of the main reasons why i waited for the one!

btw vivid:
i will not sell the e30 my dad got that when a year after i was born! build date is Nov. 1986! if anything he would rather part ways with his e36 and take the e30 back!

sry for misunderstanding and saying you guys were bashing the 128!

who drives in neighborhood streets? a lot of people will track this car and drive it other than in their neighborhood... if thats the case why buy a 6 cylinder, or a car for that matter? as long as you can go 25 mph then you are all good, a nice bicycle will do that

Actually a large percentage of 135i and 128i owners alike are going to be using this car as a DD.

If you are starting a family you shouldn't be looking at a coupe period. Even a E90 in my opinion is too small for a family.

I've been on this forum since putting down my deposit for a 128 MT ZSP in October. To be honest, I'd been afraid that I would have a serios case of buyer's remorse because of the 128's toned down performance and body work.

I've had my 128 for six days now, and I can say there is not now and will never be ANY buyers remorse here! This car is PHENOMENAL in every respect.

Slickone: my 11 and 8 year olds love it. They're perfectly fine in the back seat. They never want to get in my old Accord again. No issues with this car and two kids (three might be a problem, however).

If my 328i E92 had that, I would most likely still be in it.

Having had an E92 for a year and a half, I can tell you it is MUCH bigger feeling than the E82. They are really different in that regard....

That being said, I'm not sure how well this car would do with a car seat in the back--but I have never tried it, so I have no idea.

Lifting out a removable seat (for infants from birth to 6 months) from the back seat of a compact coupe would lead to herniated disks within a week.

Putting a child into a rear-facing fixed seat (6 months to 1 year) in a compact coupe would be a feat worthy of Cirque du Soleil. Also, a rear facing fixed seat may not fit in the 1ers back seats unless the front seats are cranked all the way forward.

Putting an 18-month-old into a forward facing fixed seat would require some contortion, but would be workable.

A four year old climbing into a booster seat (likely requiring an adult to buckle the seat belt) would also require some contortion, but would be even easier.

Bottom line: If the 1er is your family car, getting your newborn in and out will be a miserable experience until they are old enough (3-4 years old) to climb in and out themselves.

Advice: get a more practical vehicle, like a minivan or small SUV (even a pre-owned one, if your budget it tight), for the family stuff and keep the 1er clean, kid free and all for you. Your back and your 1er will thank you.

Like the others, I'm not aware of any 128 bashing. Had I ordered a 128, THAT, would have been far more hotrod than my old 2002 ever was. I loved the 2002, utterly, it was a hopeless enthusiasm. I miss my car...as it turned out, the 135 was available, I could afford it, end of story. The 128 is an awesome car, it's a small BMW, the 128 handles better than anything it's size, save, a Lotus, what else do you need to know? This thread has actually inspired me to trot on down to the local dealer and drive a 128. Thanks, guys.

Perhaps a BMW X3? The current 3.0si model has 260 HP, and the previous 3.0i model had 225 HP. Enough room for a growing family and fun to drive for a small SAV.

+1.

It drives just like a 3 series wagon. I think they have addressed the suspension also. Ours rode firmer than a E30 M3!!:eyebulge:

There has been minimal derision of the 128i that I've read. Just an engine or monetary preference/requirement...

It's all good - peace.

What is crazy?

If the 128i was the top dog 1er and they offered a turbo 4-cylinder 1er.

I would get the turbo 4-cylinder.

For all of those who face the great Canadian winter, if you don't have a second car to drive on those icy mornings, I would be afraid to pull the 135i out of the garage.

If the 128i could come with the front bumper, brakes, and wheels that the 135i come standard with....I'd be golden and take the 128i in a heart beat...oh and the M-Steering Wheel

I mostly agree with you.

Not sure the six piston brakes would make much difference on a daily basis, unless you're in the habit of panic stopping from 90mph on a regular basis. And even then, BMW brakes have always been very good, long before the 135i's setup.

That aside, 128i with sport pack and 18" wheels (part of the sport pack in Canada ) is a really hot car. If you can live without the twin turbo engine, it'll be an awesome car in it's own right. And you get fog lamps.
