My black 1er, nighttime shots
I recently washed and waxed my car over the weekend and got some decent night shots taken.

Thanks everyone for the comments!
I am still debating black kidneys and a black badge. The camera is a D3100, f/2.8 17-55 lens and 1.8 35mm.The rims are forgestars 19" F14 in matte black. Last edited by Venom; 09-07-2011 at 03:38 PM.. |

rims need a little more offset imo, I have some F14s being forged as we speak. So excited to get them. Your car looks really good though

I have been meaning to do this with my 1er. What ISO were you using? It looks like in a few of them it may of been a little high since I see some increased noise in the shadows along with some Jpeg artifacting around the light blooms. That happens though with jpeg compression. Only way around it is if you have Photoshop and save it in maximum quality jpeg format. I have run into this issue a lot. The 3100 and Nikons in general do well in the noise area unless you crank the ISO far too high. The D700 is the king of the ISO game for any camera body under $3k that is also a full frame sensor. It has the same sensor as the D3s which is twice the cost or more. The D800 is around the corner and I may hold out for one of those. I only have a canon T2i right now.
Are you using any software to process other than what nikon gives you? It is hard to get a black car to look detailed in night shots, I am not very good at it yet.

I'll further explain: terrible composition, bad lighting, looks like you used the flash in a few, way too much noise, white balance is off, camera is in the reflection... The car should be the focus of the pic and, well, I can't even see it. Put your camera in manual mode and learn to use it. Also, find an area with good, white lighting.
