Hood Latch Wont Open with Tight Tension

Hi all,

Hoping someone may be able to help me out. Today my hood didn't open and it wasn't the usual broken cable with no tension. I had enough tension that it broke the tabs on the handle inside the car and I had to remove the grills to open the hood.

Any ideas on what may be causing this issue? Should I replace the front half of the cable that runs to the latch? I took some pictures just in case something may look off about the latch to anyone.
