How-to: Replace chrome with Shadowline trim?
Probably a repost but still cannot find the answer to this. Any info would be great. The easiest way I thought would be to buy the trim and replace it home but cannot find anywhere to purchase it.

I just got a body shop to wrap it in vinyl and unless up close it looks identical, cost 200 bucks anad took them all day pretty much....
you can do it yourself but I have the patience of a child with ADD and would never be able to pull it off to actually have it look good b/c it does take some work...

It's pretty simple, get a T30 torx, take the 4 screws on the front of the bumper off, along with the rubber seal, and you can use your fingers to pry off the clips on the stock grills. the OEM shadowline ones pop right in... took 10 minutes.

That's just the grilles. We're talking about window surrounds and the like here...

Another option is to install gloss vinyl over the factory trim. I have seen people do it with matte vinyl but if you want the shadow look, gloss works as well.

Yes i would rather the chrome than the shadowline (looks more expensive) but this thread title is misleading... it implies you wrote a how-to not that you are asking for a how-to...

On AW or Black gives it a very elegant look. Depends on your age I guess

Thats why I put a question mark icon on the thread. Sorry if misleading. I'll probably just use vinyl and have a local shop wrap it on for me.

I'm going to place my order with my rep after work today for 09 135i. I'm getting BSM w/ the M-Sport package, and asked him to look into the possibility of leaving the chrome instead of the shadowline. I know some people are fanatic about black on black on black....... but I think it looks cheap.

Fair enough... I'm not a fan of the elegant look - I think it actually looks cheaper but maybe that's because I'm 22.

You know I like both so it really doesn't matter BUT I had to re-do the black on my Porsche window frames and what i did was Carfully masked the entire areas around the windows and body. I then used # 600 sand paper and sanded the frames out. Then with a rag soaked with acidtone I wipped the frames down. I applied self eching primer and then sprayred 3M black trip paint. It came out wonderful and has lasted 10 years so far!
