UUC Short Shifter Installed - Looks weird
I just installed the UUC Short Shifter kit today with OEM knob (the UUC knob I order is in back order). The install took the guys at Revolution Racewerks ~2hrs to do, some time was spent just trying to figure out what the instruction said.
The Shifter works great, throw is way shorter than stock and it's more notchy, but I like the feeling, it's like playing arcade game However the shifter looks funny. It's like it's pointing towards the passenger side when it's in neutral. It looks as if it's in gear when it's in neutral. Here's some pics. Should it look that way? I mean apart from looking weird, it works. I went thru all the gears, even reverse, all goes in w/o problems, no grind. BMW ones aren't short enough. This is also adjustable, so I can make it even shorter if I want. Oh.. not to mention, BMW still uses a plastic ball on their SSK... not a big fan of plastic...

Hiya,
I've also got the UUC SSK and I love the shifting action but mine also points over towards the right hand side of the car when in neutral and in each gear so it does look a little strange. However, I'm in the UK and our driving seat is on the right so this means that the shifter leans towards the driver and although it did take a bit of getting used to I now love it. If the shifter was leaning away from me I'm not sure I would be quite so happy with it. Why don't you speak to Rob Levinson at UUC and ask him about this. I'd be interested to hear the answer because their literature does state that the knob should sit in the stock position. Jack |

The shifter does look pretty weird in the pictures. How are those pedals? I really like how they look!!!

I have the UUC and mine points toward the drivers side. Are you positive that you didn't install it incorrectly. It is possible to install upside down, which would lean toward the passenger side.

I also noticed that my kit does NOT come with the Delrin carrier bushing. Is it not necessary for the 135? Do yours comes with one? Thanks |

Did you check out this DIY? It also talks about the slight bend in the shifter that you need to make sure is bending toward the drivers side. http://www.bimmerwerkz.com/forum/3-s...35i-56034.html |

yeah, they've put in the aluminum bearing liners in. I guess they might have flipped it around during the install.. I can't really see how it looked when it's installed from below the car. so I'm not 100% sure.

That would be my guess. If you had someone else install it, I'd go back to them and have them double check it. Labor wise, the hard part is done, which are those 6 tiny screws that go in the housing. Taking it out now shouldn't take them that long.

According to the DIY it's supposed to curve toward the driver, but to be honest with you it doesn't look weird to me. I'm glad to hear you like it, I may try it out as well.......

I just called UUC tech support, and they said the shifter should tilt towards the driver side when it's in neutral. They confirmed mynew135's idea that it's installed in the wrong direction. I'm gonna contact evolution racewerks and see when they can fix this for me.
Yeah, the shifter is awesome! I can't wait till the Rob Knob Magnum SS gets here (backordered for 2weeks). With that knob, the shifter is gonna be even more awesome!! |
