I am just as cautious with my 128i!
I always treat it as the exotic car it is.

I may not take two spaces to park,
but I am very particular of location
in a parking lot. Then I hug the line,
to maximize space between my car
and the next parking space over,
for minimizing the probability of hits
and / or scratches while I am away.

I back it in to spaces so that I can
get closer to the curb and further
from traffic. (Clearance Difference)

(Btw, have you seen Texans drive?)
