Schnitzer

At the risk of opening up the "religious" debate over reflashing vs piggyback tunes. And I certainly don't want to get into which tune or approach is better. But I am a little curious about something.

As I understand it, the more "traditional" approach is to reflash the ECU. This has been the approach taken over the years by the likes of Schnitzer. (and Hamann, and Koenig, and DMS, and Alpina .......)

Looking at their current offering for the 1er...
http://www.ac-schnitzer.de/en/bmw-ca...7/engineering/

It physically appears like something that would be plugged into something else. Which, on face value, is more of the "piggyback" approach. If this is the case, it's a departure from their historical approach (as I've understood it).

Am I missing something? Am I assuming too much just because there's an external "box"?

And finally, does anyone have any experience with the Schnizter tune? They've traditionally produced a very high quality (but expensive) product.

It's slow(er) than the rest of your options. And german customer service blows period. So......I say JB3 FTW. And the only experience I have with schnitzer is seeing them everywhere and walking them on the autobahn.

Lol - How true! They are expensive.

That said, I have found a new (for me anyway), source of such parts & upgrades here in Sydney.. I'm still looking into it, but as soon as I can ascertain a level of legitimacy, I'll put it here.

Not sure what to expect, but fingers crossed.

Hmmm. Maybe something is lost in the translation, but according to this AC Scnitzer price list the part is $15,000 (77,000 Kr). Think i'll pass.

If that ends up being the final outcome, i'm out too.

I'm sure it's a great product, but I'd want shares in the company, and an annual holiday in the south of France, for that price.
