I have exactly the same sound from my 125i, first heard it last weekend whilst washing the front of the car. So it's definitely not turbo-related

It also goes *psssht-clunk* every now and then which I think is awesome.

my 120d clicks and buzzes a fair bit. sounds like valves opening and closing or something.
