I did confirm that roadside assistance carries thru the CPO wtty period. So if I'm within cell phone cover I can call on that.

Smrtypants44 - are you sure that your BMW Assist is active thru your CPO period, or maybe whoever you asked was thinking roadside assistance?
Yup, my assist subscription(according to the bmw assist website) ends 06/2018, three years after I bought my CPO car. My factory warranty ended 3 months ago.

Upgraded

I bought a Certified used 2013 135 IS last year and my subscription doesn't end until Jan 2020. It was a challenge to convince the Dealer. But after showing them the email I received and the dates, they upgraded mine at no charge. I felt that was best since I have over three years left. Now if someone could explain how it works I'd be happy!!

No, not that I'm aware of. But all maintenance is covered until then (Jan 2020) as well as warranty.

You have something that is more than the CPO Wtty. The CPO excludes maintenance and quite a few things that the full wtty covers. That explains why my BMW Assist expires 4 years after the in-service date.

The original owner of your car must have purchased a wtty extension that carried over to you. Nice deal.

I'll be ending the coverage and taking the $200 prepaird card. Have my appointment tomorrow morning at the dealer to finalize my selection, as the mailer I received from BMW describes it.

When I made the appointment, the individual I talked with said I'd need to sign papers and mentioned something about applying a sticker over the assist button 'because the light will always be on'.

Has anyone else had a sticker applied by the dealership as part of finalizing your ending assist?

What does the sticker look like and why is it needed (I don't understand the 'light always on comment' - I know I've been out of cellular range and no light stayed on)?

Let us know what happens. I was told that even if you elect to end the coverage, they still have to work on your car and remove parts, which is frustrating. Yet, I feel like if you called 5 times, you'd get 5 different answers. I know what I'd tell them to do with their stupid sticker.

I had mine replaced last Friday and it went without a hitch.

Beware if you take the $300 in merchandise because you have to buy the merchandise that day, in the dealership, from their on hand selection. That is what someone sitting next to me was told while I was waiting on my car to be finished. He may have been able to work out a deal to order something, but he wasn't too happy the last time I saw him.

What? That's insane! Hopefully that's not true for all of the dealership and just an aberration?

Happy to report that everything seems to be in working order after the commbox replacement. I noticed that the ConnectedDrive menu has more choices now, but to be honest I never paid much attention to them before, so perhaps they just updated the interface. I have not used the SOS button though, that'll be something I'll need to pursue perhaps this weekend.

Just had retrofit done (CPO car w/ service extension), coverage extended through CPO end date. Car was at the dealership for a few days, I guess they ran into issues. It also looks like they may have swapped out my Nav screen... Bizarre.

I had 2 done and chose the $300, they said I will receive the 300 dealer voucher in the mail. Just today I got an email saying I hope I am enjoying my purchases made with my voucher, but have not received it yet...

On my 135 they did not apply the sticker on my X5 there is a black round sticker they put over the SOS light.

Bagekko, on your X5 can you tell if there is a light on under the sticker? As mentioned in my previous post, the SA told me the sticker was applied because the SOS button light would always be on, but I've never noticed this before when I know I've been out cellular range (and, effectively, after the service discontinuation, one is always out of cellular range).

The supposed SOS button light coming on could be just an indication the overall system has detected the comm box being inactive as part of the cancellation/deprogramming option.

Why would the comm box be inactive? I understand it will no longer be receiving a signal, but this would seem to be the same as if you're out of cellular range, in which case the comm box is active and searching for a signal.

Are you saying they need to deactivate the system physically? If so, why?

I thought my 135 didnt have the sticker, but it does like my X5. As far as I can tell it is still illuminated under the sticker.

Took my '13 128i in a couple of days ago to complete the 'assist discontinuation' process.

To recap, when I'd called to make the appointment, the SA mentioned applying a sticker because 'the light would always be on'. Wasn't thrilled about a visible sticker being applied to the interior and didn't understand why the light under the SOS button would be on. Related, another member advised me that he'd talked to a tech who indicated he didn't know of a light staying afterwards.

When I arrived, I asked the SA about why a sticker would be needed. He stated that after the deactivation process, a 'system off' signal is sent which results in the SOS button light staying on. I asked him how was this different if someone simply didn't renew their assist subscription - was this signal sent then causing the light to stay on (it seems incredulous to me that over the years all Bimmers whose assist wasn't renewed would have the SOS light continuously on). His answer was 'I don't know'.

I mentioned to the SA that rather than putting a sticker on the outside of the SOS button cover, I'd rather do something inside the cover or over the SOS button itself so it wasn't visible. In the end, he gave me the sticker to take with me (a round, black sticker about 3/8" diameter).

Have only driven the car home from that appointment since then, about 30 minutes, and no light. Perhaps it takes a while or...perhaps there will be no light. If there is, I'll just block it off with electrical tape inside the cover so it's not visible.
