Are the "recalls" by mail or phone??

They are usually done by a ca.l, followed by official mail from BMW Aus. At least that's been my experience with other manufacturers.

I remember I completely failed to get the Subaru's hatch checked after a fairly big recall due to the hatch mounts being worn when up and fallen shut on people's heads. I ended up getting 4 letters (and one registered!!!).

My experience in the past with all manufactures has been recall through the mail..

The reason I am asking is that there seem to be a few posts on this forum suggesting that the recall has been done by the dealer calling in person..

Well, looks like they forgot to advise me about this recall. I just had my THIRD tail light go out. I'm going to ask them about this recall when I go in and make sure I get both tail lamps replaced again.

I have yet to receive a call, you think though if it was an actual official recall then it would be on this website - http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/in.../itemId/952885

or is it BMW just being nice?

Dumb question, but has there actually been a recall regarding this matter. I can find no record of an official recall and have not been contacted by BMW.

Any info?

I was in today having the mirrors re programmed and when I picked up my car the service guy told me that they replaced something to do with the lights so I guess this was it lol. Glad to see they didn't wait for the things to fail until they replaced it for me though.

I was in today to report the crack on the center rear light, and was notified about the "campaign" regarding the seal of the rear tail lights.

Booked in for a service on the spot and asked for a loaner but will be charged a fee for the loaner

i think only if ur car was built between between certain dates - then some1 from the Service Dept should ring ya!

Both mine died at about 8 or 9 thousand?

They can replace it on the spot while u have a coffee/tea.

My SA told me that it is a recall when mine failed. Give your dealer a call and they should confirm. I'm pretty sure all 08 builds fall within the bracket, it's the MY10 guys who have no troubles.

Also, I received the decal from you mate. Thanks

It's literally a 40min job if you bring your car into the dealer. Sit around, have a coffee and a muffin and it's done.

Not worth waiting around for it to fail. Looks crap and I had a Highway Patrolman (obviously there to protect and serve) pull me over for it since it was flickering.

Had my seals replaced on Tuesday when the car had it's first service. Actual lights were replaced about a month ago after one failed. Two separate recalls...
